For Sale: Rare ca. '80 Presto frameset

  • Offering ca. 1980 Presto frameset. * SOLD *

Frame fully made with Reynolds 531 butted tubing. The Amsterdam Presto marque had their frames made with Jan Legrand at the time. Frame shows great build quality. There is nice detailing like 3 Amsterdam Andreas-crosses on top the seat stays, aero bridges between the stays and a metal headbadge based on the A'dam symbol. Not shown in the pics: An open Roto Italy bb shell.

Condition: With this frame you will not buy a concours winning example, but it is really great for what it is made for: Riding. Driveside toptube shows 4 touch up spots. See pics. I can do that much tidier, but I leave it to you what to do.

Comes with: C-Record headset and C-Record bottom bracket. Both are in great working condition, but I recommend an overhaull. Loose balls in Motorex grease.

    Dimension:
    ST 54ct
    TT 54cc
    Seattube inner: 27.2
    Seattuber outer: 28.6

I am not sure. It is indeed from around when Legrand started to cooperate with TI Raleigh.

Location Q: Right at your door within a couple of days, as shipping is included in the price. I am in Holland.

    I am old :-(

  • but wise :-)

  • Wise? Most people think and tell different. And, for a part, I must admit they're right.
I had the honour to know Mr. Legrand. Just wonder where he hangs out now.

    Anyway, this thing is nice.
Zieleman, Rih and Presto track frames are all on my list. Just need one.
Please post one 57x57 c-t-c or so and I help you to get your place cleaned up.

  • I am sorry, I can't help with a trackbike of any of the mentioned marques.

I do have another Presto, but it is a roadframe >> the blue one This one is my size and I plan to build it up with black ano early Dura Ace. Another option under consideration is a mix of Nuovo Gran Sport with Universal Mod 61 brakes.

Btw I notice my initial post is gone when I edited to add * SOLD *. The frame is sold.

  • Would be interesting to see a picture of the frame number or anything else at the bottom of the BB shell (the blue one).

  • I know why you're saying that: Because the blue one shows stunning resemblance with a Gazelle A-frame. Some would say it is a modified and refinished A-frame. I do not recall the serial exactly, but it something with 71. Maybe only 71. It has nothing to do with Gazelle serial system anyway. Will check immediately.

After a quick comparison I conclude the brake bridge does differ and the bottom bracket lug shows more decoration than with the A-frame. Chrome was of course not typical for the A, as is the fork. The later 2 can be added/changed, but the bb shell??

  • I checked. I do not know where I got the '71' from, but the serial is P1038.

  • Sick presto's!
I decided a while ago to stick with rih's only, simply cause i haven't got enough space,
but these are mad stunners! Love zieleman's aswell! Maybe one day..

  • @ Zieleman: you got me.... ;-)
I wonder who did the top ends of the S/S.
The red frame shows typical Gerald O'Donovan / Jan Legrand / Peter Serier trade marks. The blue one doesn't.

@ Frank: sell me a RIH track frame with top tube 57 or 58 cm and your problem is solved.

  • Only got bigger ones.. sorry, btw they ain't going nowhere and I don't have any problem haha ;)

I took a second close look. I do not completely rule out a previous serial has been milled away. I can see a slightly uneven surface and when going with your fingertips over the surface you can also feel it is not even. Still it doesn't explain the more decorations on the BB lug. I would think that the only plausible Gazelle connection could be that Presto had it made with Gazelle according to his specs.

  • Hello,
In those days there was also a former (retired) employe from Gazelle working at Presto.
I think his name was Mister Slisser or Slesker. Pherhaps thats the Gazelle connection???
