I've often thought about that (the OP) when i've seen TFL bike adverts. I always wear a helmet so any change in law wouldnt really affect me anyway, but don't want to be told I have to. If they're going to make it compulsory on saftey grounds then they would have to follow that through in other areas (things like enforcing jaywalking), which would never happen.
