I am riding to Shrewton (about a mile or two further down the road this Friday. We dont want to be riding down the 303 like on TSKs road. That is fucking crazy. Best to go through lark hill.

i see what you did there.. yeah its a lot more direct, i usually hit the 303 when i drive south so haven't gone accross that route. that works for me.. Oliver? Skully? Em?
is it easy to publish that in to the bikely type website and get the gps map + an idea of the profile?
I'm easy. You've seen my organising a ride.
I'm happy to write down a load of town names and just set off.I would say that I'd prefer to leave bletchley earlier though, sometime around mid afternoon would be ideal as it looks like I may need to be back early on Sunday (Or late late late on saturday night if possible)

google gmapsTogpx
did you just fall on to your keyboard?

Shorter section on the A303, which you should expect to be doing surrounded by a bunch of stoned hippy's driving slowly.
What's the Hyde Park route doing, should we aim to try and meet up with the Bletchley lot in Amesbury if the timing coincides?
That is a lot better. There is pavement part way frop amesbury to the stones on the 303. The traffic will be stationary at that point as well. Either that or a very shot detore through Amesbury misses out a bit more of the 303. We could meet at Countess services.

Hoping that the main group will be doing something like this to avoid trawling the A303 all the way from Basingstoke.
-
• #108
That last stretch of the 303 isn't that bad to be honest. it's going to be commuter time but the other way
What time would you look to meet at Countess? I am keen to get in with my baggy trouser wearing fellow earth huggers and knit some love or what ever it is they do now adays.

Commuter time, on a Sunday. Not in Wiltshire mate.
Meet at Amesbury around 4am if all goes well. Later if worse. There should be an exchange of numbers going on before the off.

ah yeah good point! the roads will be dead bar the odd haulage truck and old couple out to buy creosote, bedding plants and dog food.
4am is more than achievable. ok lets go with that

Try this one for Bletchley to the Stones. About 10mi shorter than Slag's route and far less dicking about on the A34.
Cheers TSK. This is very close to one I was trying to work out... 90 miles for the win. Worth avoiding the A34(M) Newbury area by crossing the M4 into Hungerford.
We might end up going slightly different than this route if we start at Stony Stratford, where we might be getting fed before we set off (my mum's). But essentially this is the way I want to go ... MK >Aylesbury (or Winslow) >Thame >Didcot >Hungerford >Tidworth >Amesbury.
Yes Oliver, slow is good for me. Even though I will be using gears. Means leaving even earlier like Em suggests might help! Though he might have to leave us and put the hammer down if he's in a hurry to get back to London.Just broke the news at home that I'm doing this. Cue not a very happy Mrs Skully.
I have a murmour we might even be five people. I'll let them say for sure when they've decided ;). But small is definitley beautiful: three, four, five or six, say.

So London-Bletchley-Stones is
1 - Em
2 - Oliver
3 - Bricktop
4 - SlagI got some decent lights now but hope to the holy man above the weather stays good as the only thing i own that is waterproof is my skin.
Anybody got a GPS tool that we can program the route into??

I'm intrigued, who's the 5th?If I need to speed off on the day and make it back earlier then I will, failing that I'm really looking forward to this anyway, should be an awesome ride.
Skully, what time are you aiming to meet us in Bletchley?

If you do get 5, I might make the 6th.

Tell her to come along. My gf is probably joining in just for kicks.

Right, I am doing this route fixed on Friday. Hundred miles to Stonehenge. Leaving at 9 hopefully getting there for about 5. If anyone has the day off and fancies it then they are more than welcome.

You got somewhere to stay down there on Friday night? I was looking at doing a similar route on Sat, leaving in the AM to get there for Saturday eve....

Umm a fakenforumenger pal of mine. I'm trying to persuade him to come along ... he'd be a perfect addition.
I'll meet you when you are aiming to get to Bletchley. I'll liaise with you nearer the time.
If you do get 5, I might make the 6th.
And him!^ We love him.

two of us from Cambridge will be doing Cambridge>Bletchley>Stones
any of you who are definitely riding have a mobile number so that we can clash maybe? What time are you planning to arrive in Bletchley that Saturday?
-
• #122
Excellent stuff, eddie. I don't have a mobile but the others do, I'm sure. :)
-
• #123
Looks like I might be up for a London departure, I live out West so would ideally like to hook up around Chiswick/Brentford?
have plenty of lights if people need to borrow, too.

London to stones
I'm up for leavin Sat evening, based croydon way so can meet up

I've put my number up in the private thread for the people going the long way round. If you want to text about your progress or call up to cry about traversing the Ridgeway in the dark then make a note.
For all of the people leaving from Hyde Park, what's the meeting venue? Speakers Corner, Peter Pan, Serpentine Gallery?
But it's Stonehenge to Bletchley, not Bletchley to Stonehenge! It's the wrong way! ;)
I get the impression that TSK has the best local knowledge, so I'd be happy to go with his route. The main criterion of acceptability for me is avoidance of hills. :)
