'honest' i believe came from something i may or may not have said about alpe d'huez. it was a brutal climb on a stifling day when clintsmoker and i tackled it. little could be said in its favour. however, i did think it was 'honest'. unrelenting and set. truthful. perhaps a climb that makes you discover something about yourself. perhaps just consistent. the surrey hills share that quality, though it is not lost on me that 'honest' is now used euphemistically. if there is such a word.
