  • TfL are promoting the BIKE THE STRIKE.

Apparently there might be a 48hr tube strike from tomorrow night.

  • A planned Tube strike ? - it won't happen

  • Don't people know how to navigate their own way to work?

"Where possible, Londoners and commuters are encouraged to consider alternatives to the car. "

I'll be OK then - room for 2 cuties too!

    No Pajamas, it wasn't.
And if you continue to slur my good name in this manner, I shall have something to say about it at some point, but not right now, cos I'm stuck at work in a world of hurt.

How yer doing anyways...? How's the knee ole bean ? East's this week ? TT is it ?
    S'bin a while.

  • *The RMT Union have called a strike on all London Underground lines from 19:00 (7pm) on Tuesday 9 until Thursday 11 June 2009. If the strike goes ahead, Tube services will not return to normal until Friday morning.

Oyster pay as you go will be accepted on National Rail journeys in Greater London.

A wide range of alternative transport is available and passengers should consider using the Bus, Overground, DLR and River services. Cycling or Walking will also be practical options for many.

For the latest information, and help planning your journeys, go to tfl.gov.uk

Alternatively check local news, travel reports, Ceefax page 436 or Teletext page 164.*

What the fcuk is with their updates? When do they actually decide what the hell they're doing?

  • or being stuck at lights on a motorbike..

Not gonna happen again. I'll be the one leaving you for dead at the lights :-)

  • Ceefax. Right up there with the information age, eh?

  • you know, if it's a nice day and this catches on on Wednesday and the traffic isn't too crazy as a result - and then Thursday and Friday are nice days too - this could change cycling in London. I bet a good number of the tube goers will wonder what the hell they've been doing taking the tube once they've ridden into work. Some of them will have taken the tube every single day and still have no idea of the street level geography of London.. could be a significant change only curbed by shitty weather.....

    once you get hooked.............

Yep, there's usually some effect of public transport disruption on modal shift. :)

Web-site here, by the way--purposely simple as a quick introduction for new or inexperienced riders:

  • ^ Oops, just realised that Sharkstar had posted this in the body of the text he quoted earlier.

  • bugger - massive fail on my part. Not knowing about this whole tube strike thing I lent my bike to two friends art directing an advert for hoover who needed a fixed gear bike as a 'prop', won't get it back until tomorrow night.

Also I have a ticket for the england game on wednesday! Double fail

oh and yeah I know "serves me right for lending my bike to evil advertising people.. fixed gear fashion hipsters etc etc"...

  • I hope you rented your bike to them. The budgets on those ads are insane. You could have got a new set of wheels.

  • come on it's always klike this then there is a last minute deal where the government cave in and the tube drivers get yet another 7% pay rise
taking them to more than double the average wage
    shame they hold a monopoly
why don't they drag in the army like they do when the firebrigade go on strike get green godesses whizzing around the underground network !

  • I'm looking forward to this- the idea of getting a free boat ride home really appeals.

  • The traffic was murder today - well, it would have been if I was in a car...

Seriously, it was solid from pretty much Brick Lane to Smithfield, I'd have been gutted if I didn't have my bike...

    Haha, what tube strike?

Brick lane to Smithfield, thats a long way to push a east end fixie ;)

  • fucking Nurses! lets see them go on a strike. they deserve it. Got no time for those tube drivers, any spanner can do it, let's just give Bob Crowe enough rope and watch the greedy twat hang himself!

  • That Bob Crowe cunt wants hanging at Tyburn. I would be first in line to see that lazy cock hang. And I don't even get the tube. Too many fucking layabouts in this country for my liking

  • this is incredible. striking because they want the option to hold everyone to ransom again for the fucking olympics. the football behind closed doors should be a weird one as well

  • Oh? So, they are striking for good old-fashioned jobe and pay. And there was me thinking it was down to insufficient sugar on their doughnuts.

Wish my industry had a union like theirs. If I was you Bob Crowe, I'd keep a low profile.

  • last minute talks happening apparently, don't understand what's going to happen tbh

  • it amazing how people are so dependent on public transport and not realise how near each station is, like King's Cross to Holborn, it's only a 12 minutes walk, whether the bus take 30 minutes!

  • Average walking times between tubes:

  • yeah. I always advice our students to walk. For example, if they are visiting the city, I tell them to walk to the west end. Either via the South Bank, or down the Strand etc. They are always surprised at how little time it takes. You miss so much stuck underground

  • Get ready for two days of extra cars and extra buses with this helpful explanation of why the LU is on strike.
