I found a frame

  • Walking along Railton Rd on Friday night, on the way to the cinema and what should I see sitting on top of a load of rubbish bags but a frame. On closer inspection it was a black, steel, lugged frame with 'Diplomat' decals and no obvious cracks or dents. The tubes rang true when I flicked them. It had no forks or BB etc, just that frame. Looks to be about my size, but I am not a very good judge...

All the way through the film (Star Trek, pretty damn good) I was hoping that no one else would find it and wondering if I should have taken it into the pics with me. Luckily, on the way home it was still there and soon found itself over my shoulder and then in my cupboard.

    Result.

The only decision now is whether to respray it and make nice commuter for a friend of mine who's just moved to London or make a polo bike for me...

I'll post some pics later tonight.

  • Result!
    Polo bike.

  • Mashton, it was a gift from the Gods of Polo. Do not pass up this opportunity! (You will anger them)

  • spread the love of fixed gear and build it up for your friend, can't be losing another man to the obsession that is bike polo (not hating just saying ;-p)

  • ^It's coming for you too.

  • Build it for you, pub beater/polo/whatever.

BTW what ever happened to those ball bearings?

  • the money for the ball bearings has gone into paypal for the forks. wheels and cranks for this new beater....

the frame just happened to be a brand new carbon Bridgestone. 'found' in a 'skip'

I actually have them in my hand right now, they make a great tactile toy.

They were too big to do seat clamp bolt heads, easy to lever out. :-( We could get some more, in the smaller size, possibly.

  • A beater is a pretty good idea actually. I could make a franken bike and leave it locked on the street, for trips to the shops etc.

I wonder how I could make it completely undesirable?

    Choices choices.

  • Stop posting pics of my big brother...

  • Polo Polo Polo.

  • I had a diplomat frame, its an old frame that takes 27 inch wheels by dawes..

  • Thanks hellomiles, that's useful info. When I get photos up, maybe you could take a look and see if it is the same as yours?

  • Which bit of Railton Road was it on? Just for future bin diving reference, like.

  • 5 nights of Bleeding- Linton Kwesi Johnson

    Madness, madness
Madness tight on the heads of the rebels
The bitterness erup's like a heart blas'
Broke glass, ritual of blood an' a-burnin'
    Served by a cruelin' fighting
5 nights of horror and of bleeding
Broke glass, cold blades as sharp as the eyes of hate
    And the stabbin', it's
    War amongs' the rebels
    Madness, madness, war

Night number one was in Brixton
    Sofrano B sound system
'im was a-beatin' up the riddim with a fire
'im comin' down his reggae reggae wire
It was a sound checkin' down your spinal column
A bad music tearin up your flesh
An' the rebels dem start a fighting
De youth dem just tun wild, it's
    War amongs' the rebels
    Madness, madness, war

Night number two down at Sheppard's
    Right up Railton road
It was a night name friday when ev'ryone was high on brew or drew(?)
A pound or two worth of Kali
Sound comin' down of the king's music iron
The riddim just bubblin' an' backfirin'
    Ragin' an' risin'
When suddenly the music cut -
Steelblade drinkin' blood in darkness, it's
    War amongs' the rebels
    Madness, madness, war

Night number three, over the river
    Right outside the Rainbow
Inside James Brown was screamin soul
Outside the rebels were freezin' cold
    Babylonian tyrants descended
Bounced on the brothers who were bold
So with a flick of the wris', a jab and a stab
The song of hate was sounded
The pile of oppression was vomited
    And two policemen wounded
    Righteous, righteous war

Night number four at the blues dance, abuse dance
Two rooms packed and the pressure pushin' up
    Hot, hotheads
    Ritual of blood

    enjoy London

    racialist

  • I was waiting for you to say that!!

  • seriously, a good film?

  • A good film?

    seriously, a good film?

I saw it a couple of months ago and i thought it was pretty good considering the level of shit that is most 'blockbuster' films.

Cast was good, storyline (baring in mind i've never watched star trek before) was understandable and interesting enough.

It did help i was plied with free alcohol and didn't have to pay to watch it!

  • Well I'd say the scene where Kirk's dad dies while his wife gives birth rivaled the demise of Little Nell for laughs but that's about it.
