@Scott yeah some well-arranged compression straps sounds promising for a saddlebag - and give stability by looping around the seatpost, or seat stays, or both perhaps?

Gonna probably be a roll down design too...makes it easier to keep it stable when you add or remove stuff from inside...roll down till it's tight.
