• Would appreciate some advice as I'm in the process of planning my first fixed bike and could do with some tips on selecting a bottom bracket.

I'm about to order an OTP Vigorelli frame from Bob Jackson and am going to ask them to fit the bottom bracket for me (hopefully it will be a one-off job and I don't want to have to spend money on getting all the tools required for the job). So, currently trying to work out which one I should ask them to fit - and at the same time trying to decide which cranks and hubs I'm going to fit, it's all giving me a massive headache!

My current plan is to go for Sugino RD cranks (JIS) and Goldtec track hubs (45mm chainline). I understand that the Sugino 103mm BB I was thinking of getting may not be suitable for this pairing. I've seen mention of the Shimano UN53/54/72 BBs maybe being appropriate - from the transmission database I can see that hamster is using the UN53 107mm with Condor Goldtecs.

I'm struggling a little however to work out the differences between all these Shimano BBs and in choosing the correct model and size (107mm, 110mm, 113mm?). Of course, I don't have to go for a Shimano BB - would be happy to receive advice on other BBs that could be suitable (I don't really want to spend more than about £30ish though).

Can anyone offer some advice please before my headache gets even worse - and so I can get my order in to BJ ASAP!

    Cheers.
