  • Games are good for viral-legs.

What's the 'smack kids without helmets' thing?

  • A viral is only viral when its viral. Or something.

    But lovely idea.

  • By the way do you guys all know each other or is this just an anomymous forum for people?

Lots of people know each other through rides and/or drinks. Come on either - see compass beer ride thread for details.

  • few elaborations on the idea:

    • High speed is a must to hook the player
    • You can RLJ etc
    • BUT the penalty for getting it wrong cannot be "picks bike up, gets back on", it has to be dead rider
    • I would imagine we would need permission, but how about a fade to a ( maybe selection of pictures of) ghost bike at the point of the accident?
i.e. the rider can be made to zoom through traffic, but any undertaking of large vehicles leads to a fade to ghost bike.
Other than that you can rack up a high score etc, compare it with your mates.
      Ideal email would be:

    Subject: www.lfgssgamehere.com

Message body: "I got 472! See what you can get".

    Would that be Viral enough?

  • I'd like to hear from someone who survived a terrible accident or a drive responsible for a fatal accident.]
Two very impacting views voiced over an everyday traffic scene finsihed with a simple but stupid cycing error (i.e cut down the inside)

    but thats just my HO

  • vroom: never met anyone on here in person (apart from one guy who I don't know the avatar name of)

Maybe counter balance he things that people need to look out for with what's cool about cycling.
If this was to be made out of interview snippets, we could compile a basic interview sheet for people, then shoot loads of footage, then search out situations where we can shoot the road footage from what people are telling in the interview ...

Would be interesting to have a variety questions about cycling, and one of them was like 'what's the dumbest thing to do when you're on a bike?' followed by all people saying stuff like "undertake a lorry", "go on the inside of a bus" etc ...

but somewhere in there you'd have a question like "what do you like most about cycling in london" and get a variety of answers, which can be cut into short flicks between people saying stuff like "freedom", "fitness", "huge joy", "massive thigh muscles" etc ...

  • i think this is a great idea. if it was done properly it could be really effective.

  • Greasy ... hat's a great idea as well.
So how many ideas do we have?

    1) Documentary style interview snippets of cyclists, mixed with shots from helmet cams or traffic footage
    2) Stupid riding mistake footage with voiceover from someone who survied

  • easy to understand, diagrammatic imagery/animation showing blind spots etc? it should also how much fun riding can be, i.e. not just frightening.

  • Loads of people here can edit, finish, sound finish, gfx video stuff on here, myself included. So I hereby offer my services for this.

I reckon it would important to get one of the campaign bodies (namely LCC) to support us in this and contribute to the advice given...

Also it will need to have a 'hook' that will actually succeed in making it 'go viral' -- its no use making a po-faced 'don't do this and that' video, no one will forward it.

"Also it will need to have a 'hook' that will actually succeed in making it 'go viral'"

    Agreed !

A nice little film about road safety won't go viral, needs a key idea.

  • Sounds like there's only one thing that can do all that - nudity.

    Naked wins every time.

  • rideo style flick (follow cam in mash rides style) with the riders actually explaining/commenting on their moves and what they did to check out unharmed ... maybe as a section of a multi part project. i love see ppl ride nuts to the point where their fun is literately dripping of the screen.

    • i like mistake/love-interview snippets idea a lot, too. hmm ... combo?
    • Cyclist with a chameleon head, eyes looking in all directions. Angle of 'keep your eyes on what's happening around you'. Could develop this a bit to have cyclist with eyes in the back of their head, saying 'you don't have this, so make sure you keep aware of what's happening'

if it's to do with road safety, it needs to involve a squirrel. FACT.

Here's one I did of Sir edscoble last summer, it can be done much better, this was just knocked off as a bit of a joke in reaction to Ed saying he looked like a squirrel in the original footage.

    Edsquirrel on Vimeo

  • ^^ and a **naked **female squirrel *oh_boy!

  • What gets people watching and sending these things on is something they aren't expecting, like the T-Mobile mob-commuter ads. Also, having something that people mimic and make their own video of. So maybe try to make everyone the cyclist interacts with be someone in on it and without being gimmicky, get the hook in that way?

  • Oooh tracking squirrel heads onto randoms doing stupid cyling moves

followed by a big fat slamming graphic: "NUTS"
    after each near-miss

Oh forget it I'm just ranting.

  • Greasy ... hat's a great idea as well.

    3) people without vehicles fighting in the road 'Why can't we be friends?'

have to say all of these incl. mine are boring as fuck.

  • Oooh maybe fighting naked would get it viral!

  • Fighting naked is only acceptable in prison!

  • ...and jelly

  • Oooh tracking squirrel heads onto randoms doing stupid cyling moves

that's cool, really! short flicks in a dozen, i could get animated heads for better facial expression control. ... so it's no. 4?

  • A woman rider on a holland kind of bike goes elegantly through traffic, where the traffic scenery is stationary cars and couple of drivers out and in fight with other hivized and behelmeted cyclists, peds, truck driver beast fighting off two(!) motorbike messengers at once. nice soft cam moves around the woman, like a walz, to the point where she wants to undertake the truck, all with a smooth gentleman in VO getting to the point as well X/ don't undertake truckies.

... and then it all ends up in a cream cake fight CUT!

  • tynan ... I had a look at your vimeo page ... I like the will power demo ... do you think this kindo angle would work for an interview shot as well? Maybe an assortment of wide angle london style sights in the background would quickly make a vid popular...

  • The RLJ one could be done in the style of a WW1 trench. Machine gunners on either side, no-man's land in the middle as the lights change, cyclist thinking of going across but all the gunners eyeing him up in their sights.

  • hmmmm methinks, Pascalo, that 'good looking' things won't 'go viral'. Funny things/fun things/wierd things 'go viral'.

It has to have the 'hook' I mentioned. Why did you say you were not sure about this comment?
