    because of the Proportional Representation system under which the elections are contested he needs as little as 8% of the vote to get one of the eight places up for election. In the last European Elections in 2004 the BNP polled 6.4% in the North West.

    From the Hope not Hate website. They're putting Nick Griffin up as candidate here, so they obviously consider NW as their best bet.

    @wooodrow I'm not too clued-up on the voting system in play here, but I think that something to do with the way its run means Green have a better chance of blocking BNP than the big guys. I think the way the system is set up is designed to allow greater participation by the smaller parties. Was told this by someone who seems quite clued up on the tactical votes against BNP. They said Labour is the best option for Yorkshire, so I don't think they're just promoting Green.
