  • So yeah I'll be out canvassing for the BNP today, y'all better get out and vote to keep Britain British! only need 8% to get Nick Griffin as the MEP for the North West

  • Haha nice one Woody you filthy Nazi.
I would be on it but my postal vote hasn't turned up, piece of crap voting system.
Lib-Dems! Woo the English love an underdog.

if you've registered to postal vote and not received the paper you should nip down to your local ballot box with ID and explain. They can over-ride your postal with an in-person...

  • yer immigrants out. not in my back yard...although i would've had to cut the grass more often growing up if my old man wasn't allowed in my back yard!

  • I've had it on pretty good authority that the best tactical vote against BNP in the North West is to vote Green. Can anyone confirm this?

I'd really rather not vote, but then I'd also really rather not have racist fuckoes representing me...

  • a wasted vote is indeed a wasted vote, if you don't like the big guys vote for a single-issue party such as green. Hell, you've got a bike to back up your POV :)

  • Lib Dem all the way! if you want to vote tactically maybe UKIP?

  • Green ftw

  • Green ftw

    +1

  • The European Parliament has proportional representation of votes, so no vote is really wasted...

    Greens FTW

  • Green it is, then. The polling station is only 50 meters down the road, so can't really complain. I think it's at the local Hindu temple. Is it just me, or would it make a lot of sense to hold all of the polling stations in Hindu temples/mosques/synagogues/other non-Christian places of worship? It'd be a pretty cost-effective way of keeping the BNP voters out :-)

You must live near me, I'm about 70yds from the temple.

Yeah? The awesome gold one on Wilbraham Rd? Brilliant building :-)

  • i dont think it is green ftw, allthough i wanan vote Green, how would you feel if the BNP got in because there wasnt enough majority behind the other parties? there needs to be ten times as many votes for the main parties to ensure the BNP don't get in. as much as i wanna vote green, and would down in the south where aparently the threat of Nazis is less, don't think it can be afforded here

Eh ? BNP heartland is Barking (I've been and it's hell on earth). BNP has some support but mainly W Yorkshire and Burnley/Oldham. They ain't gonna get in so vote for who yiou like.

  • .

  • @Ronnie

because of the Proportional Representation system under which the elections are contested he needs as little as 8% of the vote to get one of the eight places up for election. In the last European Elections in 2004 the BNP polled 6.4% in the North West.

From the Hope not Hate website. They're putting Nick Griffin up as candidate here, so they obviously consider NW as their best bet.

@wooodrow I'm not too clued-up on the voting system in play here, but I think that something to do with the way its run means Green have a better chance of blocking BNP than the big guys. I think the way the system is set up is designed to allow greater participation by the smaller parties. Was told this by someone who seems quite clued up on the tactical votes against BNP. They said Labour is the best option for Yorkshire, so I don't think they're just promoting Green.

fair enough, its been a while since i studied the intricasies of the different PR voting systems, and i havnt really looked at the spread here, so maybe i am allowed to vote Green now!

  • This seemed to sum the thing up quite well for me:

Greens were generally above BNP in all areas in the last European election. This meant that the BNP wouldn't get assigned a seat until the Greens did first.

When parties get a seat, the votes required for that seat are subtracted from their total, and they have to hit the target again. In the question of a Big party vs a minor party, theoretically voting for the bigger party has the possibility of wasting hundreds of thousands of votes after it gets its first seat. There is no guarantee that voting for the big party will stop a smaller party getting the next seat. Voting for someone like the Greens however, is more likely to secure a seat (especially in areas where they missed out on one last election) as long as their party gets more votes than one you don't want to win (aka BNP).

  • vote taking responsibility of your own life instead...vote nobody...vote for an end to this so called democracy...do what you want...Big A Little a...Big A, little A, bouncing B...The system might have got you but it won't get me...1 - 2 - 3 - 4...my opinion is participation=perpetuation..

    YouTube - Crass - Big A Little A

  • vote taking responsibility of your own life instead...

'Instead'? It's not either/or. I'm more than happy to take responsibility for my life. In this instance, I'm taking responsibility for who I choose to fund.

    vote nobody...

I would prefer this, but a non-vote often just ends up as a vote for whoever can be bothered to turn up at the polls. Not voting doesn't stop people getting in power.

vote for an end to this so called democracy...

This would be nice. What methods do you propose to bring about political reform?

    do what you want...

    Thank you! I will!
