If you want a sausage fest etc. etc. etc.

its all about the musical brevity dontchaknow?

dude - I think your post here is being a bit harsh to Scott be honest - and some of the other comments here are starting to take on a bit of a slanging tone which isn't necessary, it's all fair comment.. I had a laugh at all the diva references but just because someone makes their dissatisfactions known doesn't mean they're being precious about stuff and I don't think that's where either of us are coming from. In fact I would say Scott was spot on in his ipod or CD comment - for most people there I don't think they would have cared either way how the music was being sorted out. Now that's largely about being outdoors in the sun, which I would never, ever want to deny people, as depsite my eez-i-burn (tm) complexion I am a bit of a sun-worshipper myself - lord knows we don't get to enjoy weeks like this one very often in London town.. but the venue's issues meant that the music was a distant part of the setup rather than a central part of it, which the session was supposed to be all about. BDW and a few others were out the back and they were there to listen - and it was fully appreciated - but the music wasn't carrying out front as it could have due to speaker problems and neighbour issues.

I also want to point out that my first post came in when the dissatisfactions had already been aired and were being dismissed, so I was trying to back Scott up a bit as I fully understood what he was talking about.. anyone who has said "don't see what you're making a fuss about, I had a good time" - well of course you did, you sat drinking and chatting in the sun all night! The Dj a lot of the time cut a fairly solitary figure - djing is about sharing the music and having a laugh, not navel gazing by yourself in your little booth. When the whole joint's empty apart from a couple of people ordering drinks yet people are in the yard having a great time it does seem like you should plug in an ipod and join them. I was speaking in general when I said about the "thankless task" bit - I enjoyed myself as the night wore on and I'm always grateful of the people digging the tunes - but it would have been far better to be playing in the yard on the front where you can join in the socialising going on. Rather than everyone interpreting Scott's (or my own) comments as dj prissiness, try and see them as borne out of the sense that 90 minutes of helping the atmosphere be mellow and summery and bright felt a lot of the time like 90 minutes of private time with your record bag....!!

I'm not trying to rant at any point here so don't misread this shit, it's all healthy discussion as far as I'm concerned.. I just think the bar made a lot of money out of us while not delivering on the music setup and it definitely isn't the best for the job. But for all you guys out on the front yard... the back yard was where it was at.... ;)
