here's my otp. 2009 langster monaco. new stem, bars, saddle, pedals.

  • @irish mick, nice and clean mate. What tyres?

  • schwalbe lugano.

  • Mal took this out today for her first proper single speed spin and she says..
"It's great. It's nice and shiny and thank you for getting it for me you Langster-loving cunt"

Okay maybe she didn't say quite that. ;)

  • Critical Mess.

Mal's riding her bike to the gym and stuff now without me 'holding her hand'. Explained how to properly lock the bugger so it's hers for longer. First step gym, next step solo round the world female record holder... ;)

  • Nice wheel/rims on ur lady's bike hippy. What are they?

Also, is that saddle comfy? I thought women had wider seat bones, so that saddle wouldn't neccesarily be the best choice?

  • They're stock Langster "Polish" wheels. I didn't bother to look any closer. I can if you want?

Also stock saddle. It's a Toupe 143mm. I'll wait til Mal starts complaining and see what choices we have. She doesn't ride far enough yet to notice :)

  • there's a polish langster in oxford.
    I saw him yesterday.
looks nice, if a bit stealable.

  • So ......... the Giant Bowery. It's OK. A little heavy. The ride is a little dull. The bottom brackets creak as they weren't greased and the 3/32 running gear lacks rigidity. Otherwise it is OK. That was what I thought until I had the fortune to ride a pimped version. Miche Pistard wheelset, Dura-ace 1/8 drivetrain, Easton OS carbon bars, Easton carbon seatpin and a killer set of Look HSC5 SL carbon forks. Now the old workhorse Bowery wills you to rip down the street its really good fun to ride. Most importantly is shows that the frame is actually pretty good and a worthy potential project bike.

  • Nice, but where's the photo?

  • ^^Why people leave their helmets outside I do not know..at least I can't think of any reason..

Makes it harder to jack the lock - you can't so easily get tools into it.

Some of these bikes are looovely. So now I hate you all.

  • i dont see how the bowery is "heavy" at all?

  • i dont see how the bowery is "heavy" at all?

    +1

Its actually relatively light, being aluminium. Make that, strong and light.

  • hippy suprised you haven't got a compass on your bike, especially with your legendary navigation skills

  • agree with the above comments, my Bowery is lighter than most other bikes.

  • My new Potenza
    As spec'd on their site

    and MKS Stream pedals
    Campagnolo Veloce brakes

Posed next to a convenient car (Ka) corpse.

    such a thing exists?!

  • Just got my new OTP SE lager 2009, my first ss/fixie, rode it to work today and seems pretty quick, handles nicely.

I'm not looking to do a lot to it at the moment but does anyone know of any cheap upgrades? Or maybe what I should be prioritising in terms of upgrades?

  • what do you not like about the bike?
    change what you dont like
    or when stuff breaks

  • All seems fine at the moment, I don't want to give you the impression I'm really eager to spend money, its just that I can imagine with most OTP bikes (especially the cheaper ones) there are gonna be some components that are probably fairly basic. The question was maybe a bit too open ended i guess!

As a newcomer I was just basically wondering if there's anywhere that manufacturers tend to use sub standard componentry. That might be too general a question too i guess!

  • OTP bike are put together to make sure the component will last for a bit, obviously there are some OTP bike whose component doesn't (cheap MTB from Halfords), but generally it's fine.

If you find says, the handlebar feel a bit too 'close' to you, or too far out of reach, change the stem into a longer/shorter one to compensate, as well as choosing a saddle (can't exactly recommend you some as everyone arse is different), etc.

if you like how your bike fit you, how it ride, etc. then leave it alone.

  • Here's a nice mod of the Kinesis Decade Convert2, taken from the maker's website.
I don't normally like the Trick look, or BMX bars on a racer, but its not bad looking.
