i also live 30secs away from rob, genuinely nice man, always free and easy with the tools/cider if you catch him in the right mood.
Cannot recommend him enough, but yeah, opening times are sporadic(but most days at least for a few hours). I've often tried to pay rob and him not accept money, **maybe you were being obnoxious? **
