  • Should only take 10 minutes right?

  • How about drop downs so you can select a make/model of any given component and then search for any matches that contain that / those items. So for example I could select RD2 and Formula Hub and then see any known working configs that contain both.

  • ^ you can guess from the BB make on most occasions.

What's bugging me is that it doesn't answer my question: will 111mm campag centaur give me a straight chainline with sugino 75 and gran compe?

It comes up in the database, but people are using the same length bb (111mm) with goldtecs and phils etc, when goldtecs have a 3 mm difference in chainline...

So is 111 better for goldtec's 45 mm or is it better with regular 42 mm (with sugino 75's)?

In other words, I think people have uploaded their transmission set-up to the database irrespective of whether their chainline is straight or not.

Exactly the same conundrum here. I'm assuming they're all straight (or close to). And that the Centaur 111 will better suit the Goldtecs. The Suginos seem to only be sweet with a 109 like the unattainable/overpriced Hatta/Dura Ace 7600/Sugino.

Remember: this is just one more (albeit excellent) tool in the process. But yes you are right. Now if only it could magically make a 109mm ISO sealed hub appear to solve the rest of our actual problems, Arup's creation might just be God himself.

    Blah blah blah. :)

  • That explains the appeal of miche BBs, as they have an adjustable chainline. Pity they're absolutely shit.

  • i strongly recommend a combination of this -
http://sheldonbrown.com/chainline.html which has lots of hub and sprocket sizes

    and this-
http://sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html which has loads of bb lengths with the chainline they give

    sheldon is a god

  • OK spent quite a while searching for the above mentioned combo in an attempt to find out the correct BB length to get a 45mm chain line.

I'm happy to go with any of these BB's in the listed order

    (1) campag centaur BB
    (2) getting a royce BB refurbished
    (3) a Phil Wood steel BB

    Any answers?

  • fest. if you've got campag pista cranks you need a bb of 111mm, the centaur ones should do you right. thats what I had in the grape ape (now has campag pista innit)

  • nice one! My phone died from all that rain a couple of weeks back, can you txt me your number.

  • Actually no, you have a Phil Wood hub (42mm) chain line. I want to potentially get a campag pista crank to a 45mm chain line.

  • spoke to brixton cycles and they reckon you need a 116mm bb, but still reckon a bit of trial and error will be required. buy the centaur one, cause its cheap, see if it fits/gives you the correct chainline and then buy another better/more expensive one to replace...
