I'd go hand built.
Miche hubs on Mavic CXP33 for just one example. Loads of choice out there

I'm trying to keep the cost down around £150 and rough calculations would put the suggested hand build at aroun £190-200 (maybe!)
I'm getting no work done today due to somewhat obsessive comparison of rim weights and depths its starting to make me feel sick!

Legend has it that people with the necessary skills and equipment lurk around this here forum - I found a bribe of cider worked very well.

whats wrong with the wheels you have on there now?
-
• #9
Nothings really wrong with the wheels i am using at the moment except that they are fairly weighty hence the interest in the mavic rims (and someone made me an offer on the current wheels if i do replace them) but in the course of looking for new wheels i came across the pistards and they were easy on the eye.
Maybe i should investigate finding a easily bribed wheel builder in leeds. I could strip the hubs out of the tarus then and put them in the mavics yet. the horror of indecision

unless the tarus wheels are made of lead, i don't think you would notice a huge differance in weight.
but if it's for aesthetic reasons,it's understandable, and i'd go for the Pistards. -

taurus rims are 615g i think. so the difference to the pistards would be very small and i probably wouldnt notice the difference on the open pros. I also can't really justify spending money for simply asthetic reasons. It seems the forum has safely talked me from spending money on stuff i don't need. excellent!

Ahem, have you seen/considered these ?

Even with the postage they're a brilliant buy. They also do many colour, rim, hub and spoke options etc
these:

or these:

to go on this:
dilemma!
The mavics are nice and light compared to the pistards (which might be slightly lighter than the taurus' that are currently on the bike) but i can't find any information on the zenith hub that is on mavics which i believe will be heavier and crappier than the miche hub. The pistards, despite the weight issue, will look nicer and i like miche hardware.
tough call. heart vs head, form vs function.
Some one close the deal for me one way or the other. Or recommend a good alternative in the same price bracket!
