Goldtec Touring Front Disc Hub as a rear?

Posted on
• Would it be possible to run this as a rear with hub-jubs kit? Or is that a ridiculous idea?

• Can't see why not, I'm running something similar there may be some spacing issues, but this website has most of what's needed
http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shop.html

• I don't see the point unless you already have a spare one as:

It costs the same as the rear track hub

You will need to replace the original 100mm front axle.

• Yep but the track hub is screw on and I'd like to use a bolt on disc mount and fancied something different to the XT hubs on velosolo.

• Sorry to resurrect the thread but just found out that velo solo solid axle kits can only be used with 'cup and cone' type bearings. I've just bought a Hope Pro 2 front which apparently isn't suitable. Does anyone know if there is any other way to convert this hub (say with a holow axle) or know which other hubs use cup and cone? (I don't fance the shimanos) Has anyone done this successfully or am I trying to do something ridiculous?!!

• you just need a MTB disc hub with a nutted axle? plenty of those available.

• I don't know about the front but I know hope pro 2 rear hubs can be run with a q/r or bolt on in a goldtech style. I've got a bike with a bolt on cog and a q/r + chain tug. I ridden it brakeless too no problems.

• So using a qr skewer instead of the solid axle?

• you just need a MTB disc hub with a nutted axle? plenty of those available.

such as..?

• do i really have to come round and show you how to use google?

nutted disk hub JFGI !

• So using a qr skewer instead of the solid axle?

Well the axle is still solid, it's not fluid but the wheel is secured by a qr.

• From the man at Velo solo

"Problem is virtually everyone else uses a cartridge bearing now with a propietary axle. Unless the manufacturer is able to re-space the axle it is not possible to do and I have no links to anyone who has done this I am afraid. Most would not condone a front hub on the rear anyway I guess! XT with a 10mm threaded axle works very well."

So it's a XT or Tommy's (solid) QR technique.

• you just need a MTB disc hub with a nutted axle? plenty of those available.

No you don't, but you do need to stop pretending to be clever if you don't know what you're on about. I was asking for specific examples rather than a guess, which I'm very capable of myself cheers.

if a nutted disk front hub will work the same as a solid axle converted XT hub then you have other options. i was guessing that you wanted bolts to secure the hub and you needed strength as it's going on the rear? well a MTB nutted front hub is going to be used for jumping and trials so no problems there.
you asked for examples, i told you to use google then you would have found out that surly, DMR, Profile, white industries, Halo, da-bomb, NS-bikes, chris king and others do nutted front disk hubs, there's no guessing involved just a couple of clicks of a mouse.

• What I meant about the guess is that you don't know if these will work. I imagine if it was possible to use a nutted MTB disc hub and bolt a velosolo cog on what would be the point of doing what velo solo do and converting the XT. There must be an issue with spacing etc?

I know how to google search, what I was hoping for by posting on the forum was some advice from someone who had attempted something like this or knew what was involved, hence my question about specifics. It doesn't seem like anyone has though, so it must be a shit idea. Over and out.
