that's cool. Bern is great

Yeah, it's a lovely city. It sort of reminds me of the place where Natalie Portman lives in Star Wars.

Are you talking about Bellagio in North Italy? I went there a few years ago, beautiful place.

Admittedly when I first read the title this sprung to mind:

Ha! There's a heated swimming pool in that picture belonging to one of the more expensive hotels. I got thrown out of it - or more accurately thrown back in to the lake - when I was sixteen having sneaked in like a Navy SEAL.

is no one trying to buy up some of those and restoring them?

Looking at cars like that makes me upset that most modern cars are unbearably boring to look at.

Last weekend I visited Kaufdorf and saw this amazing "car graveyard".
Isn't that like what you used to have as an avatar?

I'm flattered that you noticed! :)
That was a snap I took in New York, of a car half-buried in someone's garden.

I always used to like that avatar.
What's with the tyres?

Well they were meant to turn around, but I fell foul of the complicated rules for animated avatars and they ended up being much, much less exciting than I'd hoped.
As it happens I was thinking of switching to a Kaufdorf pic. I'm fond of images of cars (and other machinery, buildings, etc) decaying. Really can't wait for whichever dystopian Sci-Fi scenario happens when North Korea turns all the remaining oil into Swine Flu.
Something, hopefully, that both rabid cyclists and the car-appreciation people can both enjoy.

I'll post some grainy cameraphone pics when I work out how to use technology, but meanwhile here are images from the site that I found the place on to begin with:
For anyone near Switzerland, Kaufdorf is between Thun and Bern. You walk down pretty much the only street and then haggle with a nice old man in a scrapyard.
It's well worth a visit - especially before the owners build walkways all over the site, which they've started to do.
