ebay has some good value track wheelsets.

I'd keep the gunmetal/stealth look going
Ideal for your build:
Goldtec pewter hubs £130
Mavic CXP33 black £70
DT black spokes £40
if you're on a budget you could go for the Halo Track wheelset in black or neon yellow

Goldtec hubs are worth the investment. Nothing is more economical than buying things that'll last you for ages. Get'em in Black for mad stealths.

On a different but related note, I'm after some 700c wheels for freewheel. Will a freewheel fit on a screw on cassette block?

sorry for the plug but - what are a good hubset that i wont have to constantly change bearings/re grease, is it reall worth paying £130 for goldtecs over £50 miche primatos?
-
• #7
wasn't aware that miche primatos demanded constant changes of bearings re-greasing?!
-
• #8
anything sealed will do you.

You get what you pay for really. More money = better quality

oh god i am really lusting over those goldtecs, il just tell myself that it was a good idea spending £70 more than i intended to get a far superior hub
@Ved - it rains sooo much here and i usually ride in the rain so i would expect to go through quite a few pairs of bearings :/ -

You can get good hubs at IRO Cycles, which are on sale: US$ 40.00 (the pair) at this link:
http://www.irocycle.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=166 and they have them in Black or Silver and High/Low flange (32/36 holes). They ship to UK and may cost around US$ 23.00.
They have SS sealed bearings and are pretty decent according people on other forums. -

Thanks everyone... got some food for thought.
Not sure I could afford the Goldtechs so may have to go for something a little less pricey like the Miche primatos. I currently have got some Formula Track Hubs in white and was thinking of having them laced to black Deep Vs with black DT spokes but I'm increasingly tending towards more of a stealth look.

do not buy from there though, bunch of cunts.

first hit in search henry. i have no affiliation with them...

feck I've ridden my ambrosio Hubs on ambrosio rims practically every day for two years, and my commute was 15 miles round trip now up to 20 and I've not replaced the bearings yet.
Probably replaced most of the spokes but never the bearings.
All this bomb proof stuff is bollocks.
Having said that I paid £150 for them back in july 07 and a set of goltechs to open pros are only another £50.

yeah what Ed said, I been riding bargain Formula hubs through last winter come rain or shine and they're still smooth as buttah.

Solid and a reasonable price.

I need a hub to build up a new front wheel and I really like my pit lock I run currently on my cheapy road wheel at the mo. Are there any high flange hubs that will accept skewers?
I wondered if this would but I think the axle is too long:
Does anyone know if it is possible to swap out a track axle for a road one on a sealed bearing hub?

I just brought a pair of these from Graham Weighs...
http://grahamweighcycles.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=14_37&products_id=110
TBH they are a quality shop, used to be the old Deeside Cycles, who were a top supplier of track bits in the north west. My old open pro on primato were bulit there - excellent wheelset.
Well worth a look IMHO

graham weigh = thumbs up.
Good Wheels/Hubs at an Economical Price
I'm thinking about getting some new wheels for my next fixed gear project but don't have the most amount of money (credit crunch and all).
Any ideas on what would be a suitable purchase to go with a Gun Metal Grey Frame/Forks? (Currenlty all other parts are black).
Unfortunately I don't have a pic of the of the frame yet as it's still being finished
