ITS NOT a FUCKING BODGE!
it was designed to allow Keirin riders to train on the road.
those fuckers are professionals don't you know.FUCK this thread is pissing me off.
learn your shit first then argue. That pretty much summarizes it for me :) especially the last line.
i whish i had not said anything now.
Yeah....maybe you should avoid spouting off about things you don't really know about.
going back to something that was mentioned earlier - someone said that it's crazy/stupid to run just a rear brake on a single speed, yet more ppl say just a front brake gp far more dangerous. what's the general consensus on this? i come from a Bmx point of view, so i think id rather just run a rear brake if i was only going to have one (I also think you only need one brake to stop you)
I'm in agreement with Phil on this one, yes a front brake may actually stop you quicker in SOME instances, like ideal conditions a straight line, dry clean roads etc, however a back brake affords you a greater degree of maneuverability in emergency situations, especially in the wet or on loose surfaces, you can change direction much faster to avoid dangerous situations whilst braking with a rear brake than with a front brake, front wheel skids are unrecoverable in more circumstances than rear wheel skids, and MUCH harder to control, hence I will always back rear brake/braking method as the safer option......sadly though if you have shit bike control and don't know what you're doing, front brake/rear brake/any brakes will not save you in a dangerous situation.

these are very serious people.
frankly, and watch this now, only about 5% of these fuckers can actually ride as well as they chat.
move on.Oh and Jersey, i've got video evidence of my riding skills going online in the next couple of weeks, two videos in fact, one vid has my mate Ric skitching a bus at nearly 30mph and whipping out some nice sideways skids in between bombing some tight gaps in traffic, and there's footage of me racing and beating a very serious looking chap on a Bob Jackson, on my trick bike with 32c tyres at 25+mph...with NO brakes :p.
Plus yanno, there are a fair few people on this forum that have video footage on a big upcoming fixed freestyle DVD, have won alleycats, and several that have couriered/courier for a living, most of which have superior bike control to myself and are a lot faster.....what were your credentials again? -

I totally understand bodging a break to an old track bike if you have to, but not a brand new track frame form a shop.
Was it definitely a new shop14 frame? I thought they also sold Kierin frames - in which case, could it have been a shiny yet second-hand track frame...?
Also, were you trying to write "brake" or "beak"? :)

maybe it was second hand, it had a new sparkly badge on it "14bike co" so I assumed it was new. it might have been reconditioned, still it must have been something nice under that paint job and badge to justify 1300 quid . Anyway it seems that my original question has been answered, by way of some interesting tangents, I think the "goods" have it.

I don't even care whether you're kidding or not, because this what you said contains so much of the truth.... fixed rider actually think that riding a bike fast or skidding represents serious skillz. i don't even include a wheelie in that list because it's easier on a fixed gear than on a bike with a freewheel.
street fixed gear riding has miles to go before it even starts to get anywhere... both with the gear being ridden (shit that breaks and is meant for the track) and the idea of what a trick is/skills are (stuff i see 10 year olds with a good set of jewels do). Don't get me wrong, there are some graceful fast riders out there, but i bet most of them come from other cycling backgrounds like MTB or BMX.
Hey and i ride a fixed gear too, man, because it's so FUN (!!) to do in traffic and while drinking. But if i want to do something to impress the girls, it's going to be on any of my other bikes... including taking my basket bike to get groceries, because chicks think thats cute.

More like this kind of thing?
thats an 80's Athena Brake-- apart from anything that plate looks shit and detracts from the aesthetics of the caliper, imo

I need a break from this.
*Brake.

So wait, when someone tells me I need to "have a break" on my bike, I'm assuming I should be having this on there?

£1300?! She was ripped off, I'd have sold her my Fuji for £800.
???
Just trying to point out that it was'nt done to cut corners, as it would have been easier to drill a hole.
ie. I would have been happy, had it been me purchasing the bike.
Stay lucky :)
