I'm doing it, but not on a fixie... you want to be very fit, with a low gear and mad spinning skills or footpegs to get around in a reasonable time.
Oh, and I wouldn't even consider it without at least doing Slieve Maan and Shay Elliott back to back on the fixie first
good luck though! :)

I will be doing the challenge anyway, not too sure about the 200, I have been talking about this to Neil (rides a black conversion with red lugs I think).
I fancy getting some training in anyway if you are free maybe this weekend? -

Great advice, but by footpegs, you mean handlebars, right?
-
• #6
I mean attaching pegs to the downtube or fork for your feet to avoid the pedals... can't find a pic of what I mean, but they are out there!
-
• #7
Or just bmx pegs that you can just put on your rear wheel axle.

I know exactly what you mean, but the real men just sit back and put their feet on the handle bars. REAL men, which doesn't include me obviously.

Ok you might have seen on the main forum that I am looking for an entry for the W200, I missed the deadline on entry and dont have a pass, so if you know anyone who no longer needs their pass send me a pm and I will pay them in full for it.
Hopefully I will be doing it in aid of a charity I do some work for called Camara. -

stein - not to be rude or anything but... have you actually tried to do any of these mountains on a fixie before?
-
• #21
I was meant to with crown of storms a few times untill I got cellulitus in my leg, not a good start really.
Your not being rude, it sounds like a stupid idea to me too but no point not trying right? -
• #22
sure, try.
but know what you're trying.
-
• #23
it's definately doable- we're not trying to break any land speed records in the process though!
-
• #24
I think 'trying' in this context means less 'trixiedicks' and more training in the Mountains, then going and doing it. Of course you could just crawl around it and be a huge pain in the ass for everyone involved.

Jesus lads, why's everyone getting so uppity about this race? If they want to do it then what's wrong with that... Can't see how they'd be a pain in the ass for everyone else... They're not exactly going to make a barrier at the start line and then cycle really really slowly with everyone behind them...
anyone here doing it?
i don't want to be the only one doing it on a fixie :S
