    epic fail hippy ;)

  • i whish i had not said anything now.

  • "to be honest i think if the woman had any doubt as to the quality of the brakes and therefore her own safety she might have addressed this issue herself"

but what if she was thick as shit?*
*potentially a very small chance but you can't dismiss it just because the odds are infinitesimally against her being educationally sub-normal and unable to make informed decisions about a cycles potential to pass BS6102.

    Welcome to the internet ;)

I would call it epic laugh. Forum sarcasm fail.

  • I sent it a while back did you not get it. (goes serious for a while).
    pm'd to prevent thread derailment

  • Im a bodge, your a bodge, were all a bodge. The whole trend is a bodge. no brakes, 1 brake, 2 brakes, gears, no gears. Its all a load of bodge.

  • @mr smith, yep maybe i'm just optomistic
i guess you can tell from all my pleasant posts

  • @ Mikeymerk

Dude, if you read my post, you might have noticed the "unless they sell rear-clamp kits" bits. I didn't know you could buy serious Keirin rear brake brackets, I thought, because all the ones I've seen have been different, that they were home made, rather than produced for that use. That, obviously, stops it being a bodge, but a better constructed and researched solution to a problem. I'm sorry for my ignorance.

And yeah, a road to fixed conversion is a bodge job! Whacking a load of bits together in your front room so you can ride a fixed gear bike on a frame designed for gears is a pretty good example of a bodge. I'm not putting anything down on conversions, I love that kind of stuff! I think the clamp on brakes are really clever, I'm not a very mechanically minded person so this stuff seems ingenious to me. All bodges are awesome.

i'm optimistic too..that the bikeshop would have given her good advice and sold her a suitable bike.

as for your pleasant posts i can't say i have noticed them, but since you have brought them to my attention i'll do a search and cheer myself up.

have ye heeard of a thing called 'google'?

  • Proper bodge job mate tbh imo tbf

It was speculation, chill your boots, you're in the right.

  • going back to something that was mentioned earlier - someone said that it's crazy/stupid to run just a rear brake on a single speed, yet more ppl say just a front brake gp far more dangerous. what's the general consensus on this? i come from a Bmx point of view, so i think id rather just run a rear brake if i was only going to have one (I also think you only need one brake to stop you)

  • Yeah but a front one will do it quicker.
Anyone saying a front brake is dangerous or more dangerous just doesn't know how to use it.
    Front brake ftw!

  • I need a break from this.

  • i whish i had not said anything now.

    these are very serious people.
frankly, and watch this now, only about 5% of these fuckers can actually ride as well as they chat.
    move on.

+1. I only use my rear on my geared bike in those 'oh shit' moments where I really should have scrubbed off speed earlier and I'm not in a situation where the front can lock up easily.

It's not about being the best. It's about riding a bike. I think more than 5% on here have satisfactory bike control. That's all that's required.

  • The installation of a clamp-on rear brake seems like a great idea to me. Drilling the seat stay bridge and then finding out you prefer fixed a couple of weeks later, would really pee me off. Should give better resell value as well.

Lets face it, if its a bodge its a stupid one.

Price of a hole = free
Price of a rare seatstay clamp system = more than free

Wow! I didn't know I'd get to meet actuall Mr. Contradiction today. How lucky I feel.

  • a clamp on rear brake on a fixed wheel bike will not make you legal....if that's what you're worried about.

Can't remember the exact wording, but each wheel must have independent braking systems, fixed wheel counts as one, front brake the second.....two rear systems sill leaves you legally lacking...

Think this is "like" the 1000th time this has been posted!!...hooray.
