Boris Johnson was involved in a near miss in Limehouse this morning when a truck nearly dragged a car into the path of his bike.*
The London mayor was among a group cycling along Narrow Street when the vehicle's doors swung open, catching on a car and dragging it along the road.

I've had a skip come flying towards me in a similar incident and I can tell you, the sound of trucks driving past gave me the fear for a good few weeks afterwards. Scary stuff.

The fact the CCTV came out so quickly almost certainly has more to do with media pressure due to BoJo being involved than any 'special favours'.

This is just another incident which makes me think we may have a right wing, fairly vacuous toff as a mayor but at least he rides a bike so understands what we have to put up with to some degree.

That truck driver though, what a cunt. Would his doors need to have been unlocked or did it just happen because he was driving like such a twat?

He hit the speedbump too fast, which dislodged/killed the bolt holding the door shut. WAC.

He certainly was not hanging about although it's hard to judge actual speed. These waste transfer trucks seem IMO to be amongst the worst offenders for tear arsing about. I often see them heading out from New X area towards the A2 and probably 50% drive like twats. I once rang and complained to the owners of one truck that was in so much of a hurry it overtook 30+ vehicles waiting at roadworks in Rotherhithe New Road.

Far too fast for the given circumstances, as said, bend, speed humps, road full of bikes; yet another indication of the "I couldn't give a fuck about those twats on bikes" attitude.
As for the door, well he obviously couldn't give a fuck about anyone. Those doors have a positive cam lock and a safety catch that goes over the locking handle to prevent this kind of incident.

I was amazed there were so many heavy goods trucks turning from Broadwick Street onto Lexington Street by the John Snow yesterday... Accident waiting to happen...

Interesting! The cyclists were Boris Johnson with his advisers (including Kulveer Ranger), the Transport Minister and Peter Hendy the TfL Commissioner.

The lorry driver couldn't have chosen a better crowd!
