personally i would cross the stour valley further up but seeing as most of you probably do not know the area then going up the hill oustide wye up to the crown will take you to the devils kneeling trough with views right across the romney marsh so worth it for the view. the roads will be quieter/narrower the further north you go from the edge of the downs ridge.
it's only 77 miles should only take 4 hours or so plus a bit of stoppage time. would definately reccomend gears if you have them.
