37kph average in a TT means she's a pretty bumpy course.

Spoken like a true Italian.

I thought Di Luca's ride yesterday was hugely impressive, he's far from being known as a time triallist, he rode without aero helmet, tt bike or tri bars and stil kept himself up there...
His doctor must prepare him well too.

Cav-o you beast, he has the measure of Petacchi.

Petachhi was going faster, and covered more ground in the last 200, they both hit the wind about the same time, maybe petachhi a bit earlier, so his terminal velocity was greater, he just had further distance to cover, if he'd had ecxactly the same distance (better positioning) he'd've won...

There really aren't that many good sprinters in the Giro this year--not taking away from Cavendish, of course, who is just the best (and his lead-out is excellent--look at that time when he is still sitting very comfortably behind Renshaw) and would probably win more bunchy sprints, too, but there were only about six people sprinting it out.

He looked well fast today. He seems to be best when he's been beaten early in a stage race and then has something to prove.

I disagree - the Italian was going like a train and closing fast when Cav started his sprint. Cav's change of pace was v. impressive.

I thought that too, even if it was a sporting course.
Now that Simoni's off the pace :(, I'm hoping Di Luca can claw back the pink in hills next week.

Maybe but Cav did not pull away he just maintained the gap.....until the last 5 metres or so when Pete Ackee knew he'd lost

Oh well, he's out now anyway:

Fair enough - Lets hope he prepares well for the tour - There are no Olympic games to prepare for, so I hope to see him wearing green at Champs-Élysées

nasty climb at the end there.....looked hot too.
Thought di Luca might have been able to do a bit more.

• #94
Yeah, great finish to the stage - was hoping he'd manage to grab 30s or something, but no one was letting go today!

Gerrans!
excellent attack to win the stage.

What a great stage today. So enjoyable to watch. Reminds you that sometimes pro road racing really is worth it.

I want di Luca to win, loving his "euro-pro" racer attitude.

Nah, I'm hoping Menchov will hang in there. It's been a while since a big lumbering time triallist has won something. (I'm not counting LA, for reasons that you may be able to imagine.)

Menchov gets my prize for the day - he did brilliantly to stay in it on the last climb.

Excellent stage. The roads near the end of the climb were absolutely packed with fans!
Excellent from Menchov....look like he was barely with it towards the end of the last climb.
