Seat Pin

  • Hello,

I have a problem with seatpins for my steel pinarellos. I have trawled all the bike shops where I am and can't find any the right size, they are all too big.

Is it possible to buy the thinner Campagnolo or similar ones or are they no longer produced?

  • what size do you need?

  • Not exactly sure, I broke a Campag one. Quite thin.

  • It was decided unanimously at the Cycle Manufacturers Standards seminar 1988 that quite thin seatposts would be phased out due to worldwide shortages of the artisan aluminium workers required to hand manufacture them. Not so thin (NST) seatposts were much easier to make commercially and by the mid nineties dominated. You'll be lucky to get a QT nowadays, but they do crop up every now and again and obviosly are very easy to spot. They usually fetch big money though! Good luck.

  • Tres Amusant Thanks for that. I'll try and be more specific, I broke my seatpost pin, the new one is too big, it don't fit, What I want to know is are there more than one size if so where can I buy pins that fit 1980 steel Pinas.

  • There are multiple sizes of seat pins available. Do you still have the old one? If so, measure it's diameter to get the size. They come in all manner of sizes from 25.0 mm upwards. Your Pinarello one is likely to be something like 26.8, 27.0 or 27.2 though.

Until you know the size you're going to be stuck (ouch) in getting the right size.

  • Maybe I am not being clear, I have seatposts, they fit in my seat tubing they are 27.2. What I need is the pins that secure the posts. Am I being thick or what? The ones I bought won't fit.

  • Pins can be thick and thin to go through the holes in the frame but are also different lengths, bare that in mind. BLB have sorted me out in the past with trial and error, at a price though (£10 or so for an old Campy one).

  • Oh! You mean one of these;

They come in all sorts of sizes, I don't know if there's any standardisation. Have you tried emailing Pinarello to see if they know the correct size?

  • that is the little fella! I bodged one of them in with some filing. The other is too large. Will email
    Pinarello. Thanks

  • Seat post bolt is the phrase you were looking for.

    Good luck.

  • do you mean Good Luck with some irony attached, as I left the old one in the shop confident in the knowledge they had given me the right items?

  • No, sorry, just meant good luck with the search.

Are you spanish perchance? Thought I might know you is all.

  • that's alright then. No I'm English living in Mallorca.

  • Actually , those pins are becoming as rare as hens teeth . You can get old syle bolt on ones and longer (2cm) ones , but not many of the smaller sort seen in that photo

You may well have to bodge....
