If you've got vertical dropouts, then you'd be better off with a half-link chain.

How much of the wheel nut is grabbing the frame?
Just buy a half-link.
-
• #4
Horizontal drop outs and i'd say about 70% of the nut is on the frame

Well, i'd say it's your call, but the chain will almost def strech that extra 30%. But of course you'd have to ride it properly (i.e. not tentitively) for that to happen... and whether that's safe in it's current position is up to you!

+1 For you also as I'm feeling generous.

IMO not safe.
High risk of bang death. Stick in a half link or change gearing. -

Half link seems to be the best idea floating around.
If anyone one has a spare then PM please! Actually, scratch that, need to get sorted so will get one off the 'bay -

My first post here - I need to post 5 apparently before I can start a thread. Adding two links of a 1/2 inch chain will move the wheel back half an inch as the one inch added is split between the out and the back stretches of the chain. From the pictures, I would have thought you could accommodate the wheel going back half an inch - maybe it's an optical illusion though...
Hi all,
finished off my bike and stuck the chain on it. The problem I have is when I took some links out and stuck everythign back on the chain was supertight and the nut was almost stickout over the end of the lug out.
I put a link back in and the chain was then superloose with the wheel and nut being right against the back of the lug.
I put the link back in and so have VERY slowly ridden it but thought i'd ask other opinions. Shall i just risk the wheel dropping out and hope the chain stretches or will finding a half link and putting that in work?
I'll stick a picture up to show how close to the edge it is when i can.
