Anyone up for giving me a sofa for the night? I'm tempted to come down for this and I've got plenty of fly-fly miles. I'd get in to London City airport at about 9:00am and can occupy myself until the race starts. After then I'd just go with the flow until I pass out on somone's sofa. I can pay you in glasgowfgss spoke cards and stickers.

Is the £75 hospitality ticket with food and drink worthwhile?
-
• #8
No, quite frankly, the people you meet in the hospitality enclosure are all a bit common. They also ride geared bikes a lot.

I am competing in the folding bike race. You have to wear work clothes and run to your folded bike Le Mans style.

i wouldn't bother spending money on that as last time is was full of toff looking people with fancy bikes that never get ridden! the event though was a wicked day even though the rain was coming down like crazy! they had a wicked messenger race where loads of people where being flash and falling off... if anyone reads this can you answer me this... why do messengers get treated so good compared to people that actually work in bike shops fixing your bikes!!! went to a roller race once where messengers got in half price!!!! and then could not fix the rollers without bike shop people?

Clive would never fit in there, as he actually rides his fancy bikes.

Was that 2007? I thought the messenger race had been axed in 2008? (I didn't go in 2008, though.) In 2007, I must have stood in the wrong spot, as where I was, there was nothing happening in the messenger race. -

"I want to live like common people

Seems like recession sensible pricing, if I remember correctly VIP tickets went for 110 in 2008. Not that I bought any last year or thinking of buying for this year but will be around to watch for sure.

To encourage entries? It's taken a lot of effort to get it onto the programme so everything that helps get a decent field is to be encouraged as far as I'm concerned.

Supply and demand. As leguape says, a lower price will encourage entries. The split on male/female cycling club members is something ridiculous like 90/10. Anything that can be done to promote women's cycling has to be done. Why is it that trialthlon clubs have a far higher proportion of women?
Women are, on the whole lighter and take up less space on the road.
Anyone plan on participating? Just got a pamphlet about it in the mail today. I saw a thread for last year's event, but I think the fixed wheel event is new for this year.
June 6th, 6-10pm, Smithfield Market.
I'm sure there are some contenders here for the fixie longest skid competition.
