Mr Armstrong is 'livid', app.
-
• #4
Yup, Armstrong not a happy bunny - claims it's a cycling event, 'not motogp'....
I've been watching live online on Eurosport - 3.99 for the month, pretty good coverage.

Picz or it didnt happen

Lance apparently said the whole pack was 'livid', sounds like he thought it should have been called off.
If that was the case and they were all livid then they would have all ridden a go slow, surely?
Fairplay, some of the finishes so far have been on really narrow streets at pretty high speeds...

are you referring to variable speed sign that flashed on the side of the road? that's 72.7 is in kph not mph. anyway, still fast considering the winding road and shtty conditions
-
• #8
Is this giro a race? How could competitors possibly justify being angry about someone going as fast as they could?
Or am I missing something? :S
-
• #9
think it was a complaint about the course route, compounded by the weather.

Think it was JJ Haedo that hit 117kph, saw it in an snippet from an interview with Leipheimer. He seem to think the whole comparing top speeds thing was pretty cool.
Out-fucking-rageous speed. Chapeau to all concerned.

He used the moto gp as an figure of speech based on how fast they were going. It's not often people crack 100kph on bicycles. Not unless you're Lance A (who andy knows is teh bestest) or me (who is almost the bestest but doesn't race since LA has his charity to think of and I wouldn't want to ruin it for him).

Armstrong needs to HTFU.

I easily get up to 100kph on my way to work, and that's on a bloody unicycle! I'm entering Tour de France next year. Show these hooligans how it's done!

I was watching this in Italian. The tendency of Italian commentators to over-pronounce riders' names never fails to crack me up. 'Aaaaaallllllesssssaaaaannnnddddrrrrroooo Berrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtolllllllllllllllllllliiiiiiiiniiiiiiii'.
He, he.

Bertollini was freaking fast down that mountain, the commentator on Eurosport kept saying "don't try this at home".
-
• #18
Is it Bertollini who's riding with this weird new aero posture?
It looks hilarious/terrifying. I might try it riding to work on monday!
-
• #19
I was watching him doing that yesterday and it does seem a bit looney - going down hill at 50+ whilst putting more weight on the front seems mildly sketchy.
He did alright out of it though -

No, they often do that position. It seems to work.

I watched "Hell on Wheels" the other day. In there they said people get up to 95kmph on the descends from the highest points in the Alps.
There is one part where you see historic pictures of the tour, and the riders get Newspapers handed by the bystanders, so that they can stuff them into the jerseys on the descends they don't freeze their ass off.
At some point there is Aldag saying something like "If you think about whether it's a smart thing to go down some windy road at 95kmph, with only 2 little patches 21mm tyres to carry you ... probably not ... but in a race situation you cannot really think about that."

They still do that don't they? I'm pretty sure I saw that on the TdF last year.

it's hardly new .. usually done slightly less extreme
(hardly worth trying though unless you're on silky smooth straight italian tarmac and your paypacket depends on it) -

much more impressive is rotheram rider deano downing
-
• #25
and theo bos doing 140kmph in mallorca..
Top speed hit by one of the riders in the Giro yesterday!
I was hitting just over 40 on wet roads out near dorking on wednesday and was getting seriously nervous.
Clearly I need to HTFU....
Jeez!
Descent at the end of stage 7 today looked seriously sketchy too!
