I'm genuinely excited about this and properly chuffed for you. You only mentioned it in passing on Wednesday, but I had good vibes.

Bombcup that's great news.
If you are in Monmouth a lot, you should make your identity obvious so that strangers from teh interwebz can say hello.

I'll make meself a name badge! I'm actually only at the shops for a few minutes each day, I drive the van you see. If the van's there say hello to the driver, that'll be me. Unless it's not me. Then it would be Marco, you'll know by the Italian accent, but he's the stand-in driver so it's unlikely. Anyway, say hello.

• #1108
wha. are you going to be driving the van AND roasting?
-
• #1109
haha, no I will be still driving the van for the next few weeks until we appoint a new driver (get your CV in if anyone fancies it) but then I will no longer be seen in public as I'll be locked away in the roastery in Bermondsey.

Can you roast beans on an engine block? That would be cool.

So, I bought an aerobie aeropress, and I have a stove top coffee maker for those special espresso moments.
Now, does anyone have an idea how to get the aerobie to give a nice crema on the top?
Should I tamp the grounds.
Currently using Lavazza espresso stuff (ok if a bit bland), until I get my brewing times perfect, at which point proper coffee and a grinder are soon to follow. -
• #1113
eyebrows: Good grinder gives good head.
I found massive increase in crema quantity with fresh ground coffee compared to pre-ground.bombcup: Nicely done.
I wish I had a machine at work as well as home so I could make the most of all these beanz.. -

I'm getting jittery.
I think Ive had 4 or 5 double espressos in like 1hr.
cheers hippy. -

Had a double ristretto at the Borough Monmouth and it was awesome - was so complex - I've never tasted anything where it changed flavour from the tip of my tongue to the back of my mouth. Awesome.
Also bought some Indonesian Sumatra and some Kenyan Gethumbwini. The girl who served me was great - I just marched in there and said 'recommend me something that's not South American' and she just seemed so happy to be talking about the character of the coffee. She had a gorgeous smile too. I'm kind of smitten...

Nice that folks are diggin the spro! Eyebrows, forget about crema or espresso from the Aerobie. It's a cracking little brewer in its own right but its not gonna give you crema. Use it to make beautiful sweet clean filter style coffee by inserting the piston, standing it upside down, adding 16g of freshly roasted, freshly ground coffee (filter grind), then fill with 90*c water, stir, add filter and cap, then turn over and press. Top up with water and presto. Goood coffee.
Chapeau.

have you started as a roaster yet Bcup?

I've been using a stove top for ages now, but I fancy an espresso machine. What are your recommendations for between £100 to £150 new or likely second hand prices?
-
• #1120
Had my first day today actually. Just standing in as one of the senior roasters was off, I'll start properly when they get a replacement driver. Good to do a proper hard day's yacker for a change, haven't had a day like this since I stopped plastering, we roasted over 900kg.
I loved it, had a great day. Looking forward to starting full time.

eBay is your friend - seem to be lots of people at the moment looking round their kitchens for stuff to sell that they've hardly used.
I've found that I don't use my Gaggia that much these days - since I got my ceramic filter cone and started grinding my own stuff, I've grown to love the variety. Most roasters do two, maybe three espresso beans, but around eight to ten types for filter.
I was lucky enough to get my machine cheep, but if you're going to spunk more than a hundred, make sure it's going to do what you want. If you're drinking espresso, ristretto, latte etc. then go for it, but if you're having americano, then just spend a fiver on a filter.
Ah... Got a bit carried away there. Sorry...

Cheers Mooks, Ive been grinding my own, but not roasting. I guess the Gaggia at that sort of money is better at making coffee than I am. Ebay here i come.

i'm selling my rancillio silvia yooooooo. if someone can take it off my hands this week they can have it for 160. it's got some slight cosmetic damage at the front but it works really nicely.
i'm only selling it because i don't use it at all and i'm buying a puppy.

cool I just thought I was being an idiot as lots is online about the crema.
unbelievable coffee, mmmm.
Proving my immunity to caffeine I've finished a two litre bottle of pepsi max, and had about 8 cups of coffee.
and I'm shattered, going to bed far earlier than usual.I proved not long ago that one of the ways of curing my attention demons is overdosing on caffeine, that or intense physical exercise- but that has the downfall of meaning a lack of working ability.
I'll probably develop a heart condition, but i'm more healthy than 99% of oxford students at the moment:
Like is so prevelant in the US, Ritalin/ modafinil etc are becoming used to boost test scores, along with ridiculous usage of taurine, pro plus and energy drinks. -
