Not specifically a vacancy, but I'm applying for a job at the moment and I've been asked to state on the covering letter what my salary expectation is.
What the fuck?
I've worked in the public sector my whole life so far, and so the advert always clearly states how much you're going to get paid. I haven't a clue what I'm supposed to say here! I'm willing to take a bit of a pay cut, because it's in an area I haven't worked before, but then again, because it's a consultancy role, does that mean I should aim higher?
I'm thinking of saying something along the lines of "due to the success I have achieved in my current role, I would be looking for a similar remuneration package, however I am willing to negotiate should this not match [the company's] expectations."
I'm totally confused - can anyone in the private sector help?!
