How is the BMW X5 is any different to the Mercedes, Ford, Porsche, Toyota, Land Rover, Lexus, etc. SUV?
nothing, it's just bad apple.

Loic, where are you working? I live in putney and am mates with the manager at Putney cycles. Not working today so if it makes life a bit easier for you I can pick up the wheel and take it to PC for ya
Thanks very much, that's very nice of you!!
I work in Putney so it's easy to go there for me... They are my usual shop, for years now, they built my wheels, etc... Always been happy with them so far!
I am actually about to go now as it is lunch time...Szia

So the BMW guy is some kind of small claims lawyer or something? He was probably trying to get a rise out of you so that when you react he can say "Look! Everyone! This man is attacking me! He's crazy, the accident is his fault!"
You did very well to stay calm through all this. Very well. Glad you're okay and all that.... sucks about the bike. It all happens SE!

i'm with ed on this one. i think that there are a lot of considerate drivers out there (even those that drive SUVs), and to generalise isn't the answer. it's like saying all cabbies are bastards; and all cabbies saying that all cyclists are pricks. it doesn't get us anywhere, nor does it make sense.
-

There are a lot of cyclists out there who are pricks. I really resent the ones who ride on pavements and particularly those who think that pedestrian crossings are not for pedestrians but for cyclists. When riding or driving, it is scary to have someone shoot out on a pedestrian crossing at speed thinking that they have a right of way.
Generally speaking, my view is that drivers who cycle become better drivers and cyclists who drive ride more safely as they become aware of what drivers are likely to do and why.

Different types of people are attracted to different types of cars.
Mercs, fords, Porsches, toyotas, etc, all offer a decent motor for the purpose - be that purpose reliability, comfort, speed, space or whatever.
The BMW X5 is notable in that it is bloody awful on the road, and bloody awful off it. As an SUV, and indeed a car, it fails spectacularly. Therefore it is only being bought for the image it portrays. Therefore the only type of person who buys it is the type of cock who buys a car only for the image it portrays. Or in short parlance, a wanker.
All this is backed up by the most rigorous research conducted in the pub an hour ago.

Hi again guys... and many thanks for all you nice comments!
Just about the X5... I did not mean to launch any generalisation about them, I don't remember having issues in the past with BMWs, and I just really don't care... I said it was a X5 because it is a very easy to spot car... The minicab driver had a silver grey estate ford focus, and I am not even that sure! That how unoticeable it was compare to the beemer...
Also when it comes to generalisations, I would have a tendancy to say that bus drivers are like this or like that... and that guy this morning was really good for me so...L

Generally stereotyping is quite tongue in cheek. ;]

"I'm glad he hit you!!! Shame you're not dead".
At least the BMW driver used correct grammar and syntax. One would assume an Audi driver to say:
"Shame your not dead"

Nicely written veLLO, sorry to hear about the accident, but glad you're OK. Fair play on TFL to let you on, thats a nice ending. Good effort on you for pushing him to help out.
BMW guy is wrong in the head. He probably has some serious issues.

I did a great bit of car/driver stereotyping recently....
I've been involved in a more urban version of Steven Speilbergs 'Duel' recently. Basically the same Black Rav4 with tinted windows has:
I) Nearly had a head-on collision with another car, after pulling out beside me assuming I was on the pavement, and having to drive down the centre of the road.
II) Nearly squished me by trying to exit a roundabout through me.
III) Pulled out of a parking space right in front of me.
After the somewhat strange first near miss. I guessed it was a short old lady, who'd bought a mini SUV to feel safe and have a better view. But I quickly reminded myself that this was stereotyping and that I should'nt make assumptions. The second incident really shock me up. Then when the third incident occured I found myself starring face-to-face (well face-to-top half of face) with a tiny old lady, who could barely see over the steering wheel.
Should have asked why she'd spec'd tinted windows. She might have had something nice to smoke, could have done with something right then ;)
ED: Forgot to mention. Rep added for giving the bus driver the little push he needed to his 'deed of the day'

He was stereotyped as a child.

Hi again!
I got a replacement axle from Putney cycles, and had to buy a 15 / 16 little spanner, not a problem, it's smaller than the ones I have at home so I will be able to carry them in my kit...
The axle + the tool = £10The new axle does not have a groove on the thread so I could not use the original washer that goes between the cup and the bolt as I had nothing to file down the little tongue... Also I could not take the original cup off on the drive side and had to use the new one... I will do that later at home, as I want to keep all the original bits, except for the axle of course, I need to grease it again anyway, it is all sitting in the existing grease at the moment...
So I can cycle back home tonight, that makes me feel happy! Thanks again to Paul and Big Daddy Wayne for offering to help me!
THE END

Thanks for sharing that, Loic, and sorry about the bike. I had a similar encounter with a raging car occupant on Saturday, someone who hated me just because I was on my bike, though in fairness he was a West Ham fan and they had just lost three nil so I'm not going to read a change in the Zeitgeist into it.

apart from the obvious, there is a lot of win in this thread. I reckon the bus driver helped make everything good...

+1 exactly.
people are the bellend drivers, not the vehicles, and certainly not specific types of vehicles

Hm ... it's ... God given ... statuary ... was this written by an Audi driver?
Not stereotyping, like.
BMW...X5 - say no more!
