Broadstairs would get my vote. I'd also be interested in heading out of town earlier than 8 - how about 4? Light enough most of the way, and it would give us plenty of time to relax in Broadstairs and think about how to get back again.
I've done Dover to central London over the North Downs, which was hard work but beautiful as far as just ouitside Dartford.
I've also done central London to Whitstable at night. On that ride, my main gripes were (a) we had to slog out through Welling and Dartford between 1 and 2 am, not much fun with the locals, and (b) I could have done with more miles beyond Whitstable.
