I love Minor Threat and Fugazi. Last time I went to a hardcore show I was stunned by the extent to which it seems to have become a fashion club. Even compared to '96-'01 (just before guitars became cool again) when I went to as many punk rock gigs as I could. Anyway, I'm far too into embarassing electro-ish tat and reggae these days to really care.
Having said that I'd love to be pointed in the direction of some good stuff where my lack of tattoos won't effect my credibility too much.
I remember seeing Fugazi in the early 90's. In the mosh pit there was a drunk moron being a little bit too aggressive in the pit so Ian stopped the show and warned the dude to take it easy. They started back up and sure enough the drunk dude acted up, swinging arms, kicking everyone. He stopped the show, pulled out an envelope out of his back pocket and said "here's your money back, get the fuck out!". Apparently he did that at a lot of shows.
These days, go to a hardcore show and you're guaranteed a broken nose if you go within 3 inches of the pit. Doesn't stop me going though. :)
About the tats, there's an old saying: the only difference between tattooed people and those without tattoos is that tattooed people don't care if you don't have them.
These bands have been taking up a lot of my listening time recently:
