  • 18th May 2005 Balham High Road. Got out of the saddle to discover that my left foot was not in fact clipped in, chucked myself over the handlebars.

Approaching my fourth anniversary. I am touching wood as I type*.

  • sounds nasty spag hoops, healtfu.

me on sunday at the track, managed to melt the plastic on the back of my gloves with the friction, healing up and back on the bike now, although still confused by the chainring shaped cut and bruise on my left thigh!!

bought a new helmet yesterday as i think i hit my head and got £20 off as the dude in the shop said it was going to a deserving home!

(says this without implying anyone should wear a helmet, thats your choice innit)

  • They make you wear one on the track don't they?

I wiped out a few wednesdays ago after easts, when my bunny hop onto the pavement manifested as a bunny hop into the gutter an inch before the pavement.

Then a few weeks before that when I crashed my motorcycle into a bit of Epping Forest and flipped over the bars into a hedge.

    1. About a 2 months ago - taxi u turn (wanker) right in front of me.. I don't know how I managed it (pure survival instinct) but instead of hitting it head-on I skidded around and slammed into the side with my left arm out to break the impact - mistake. Impact went straight through my wrist. Ended up not being able to to ride for about 2 weeks after that as I couldn't grip the bars, or anything else for that matter.

    2. Earlier this year when it was icy, going way too fast..just about to hit a corner on my way home, thought "going too fast, going to loose the back here...too late to break hard on the ice, maybe if I put some weight on my front wheel.." nano second later the front wheel disappeared from underneath me and me and the bike went down as one, hard...slid about 10metres on the ice— wheel bent, bars bent, jeans ruined, jacket torn, massive bruise on my hip, gash on arm and knee.. but luckily didn't hit head.. part of the reason I wear a helmet most of the time these days, ridden my luck too much

  • Day before yesterday while pegging it up the Tottenham Court Road.

Give a big kick to catch the lights at Goodge St only to find the cog ain't on tight enough and it just zips round. I'm thrown off balance and go into a death weave back and forth across the lane till I can hold it no longer. Big scraped knee and I'll be walking funny for a couple of days yet.

  • If by "wipe out" you mean "forget to take your finger off the brake before pedaling and have heavy bag whip you off your bike and onto your back" then three weeks ago. Laughed my butt off, looked at elbow and saw zero contusions. Awesome!

  • I need to wipeout the fridge tonight.

  • Two weeks ago racing a friend after the pub.

He called a race near old kent road and sped off so I chased after him in hot pursuit. When we got back home he came to an abrupt stop in front of me and turned his bike sideways like some sort of barricade, I struck him at high speed and he was thrown off his bike whilst I gracefully flew over the bars and landed in a pile a few feet away.

  • When it snowed a lot, saw a clear patch of road down a hill so got on, rolling down and the clear patch ended, cue wipeout and slide down hill still clipped in.

  • And in recently 2009

  • Range Rovers - big, loud, easily noticed...
I failed to notice it (SMIDSY!!!), pulled out of a t-junction in front of it, resultant closing speed was probably 25-40mph. My right leg and beloved Bob Jackson took thhe initial impact, before I exacted my revenge by cracking their windscreen with my head.
It wasn't entirely bad planning on my part though - I regained consciousness to discover I'd performed this spectacular wipeout in front of a student nurse and an occupational therapist.

  • About 2 months ago now: Thames path near Staines, unmarked speed bump and me sailing along, not paying attention, not a care in the world. One split second and I realised what was happening but thought I would be OK; next split second it felt like someone slammed my face into the tarmac. Now I'm waiting for my gums to settle down before the dentist can fit a bridge. But the bike abides

  • On a bike was last June. Just been to the LBS on the t'other side of Exeter to me, (to find an BB axle for a Piaggio Bianchi which had developed a helical split!), started off and failed to notice the downward contour of the paved area in front as i was leaning forward out of the saddle. Back end came up and planted myself on the tarmac in front of a pub. With witnesses.

Nothing series except my left wrist which is still a bit stiff from a previous break, bike related! :)

  • Yesterday, riding down the hill past Catford Bridge station...a load of school kids waiting by the curb...they walk into the road...i shout OIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII..they move...lucky escape...behind them was a car turning left..bang straight into it,,

seemed to have done the car more damage...driver was fuming...i rode off scared, shaking and fearing for my life. im buying a helmet this week.

  • Once in 1986:

ass fail. no point unless she's got the badonka donk!

  • Stopped at a junction when icy earlier this year. Vertical to horizontal in less than 0.5 seconds.

  • Stopped at a junction when icy earlier this year. Vertical to horizontal in less than 0.5 seconds.

Did the same in January when it snowed, 20c tyres + snow nftw.

Day before yesterday while pegging it up the Tottenham Court Road.

Give a big kick to catch the lights at Goodge St only to find the cog ain't on tight enough and it just zips round. I'm thrown off balance and go into a death weave back and forth across the lane till I can hold it no longer. Big scraped knee and I'll be walking funny for a couple of days yet.

Almost had a similar incident a few days ago. I forgot about it as well and tried to skid later on a scared the shit out of myself as I carried on at the same speed for a millisecond.

Also stacked on ice. Foolishly decided to roll over the top of a mini roundabout than risk going around it in a tight turn. Seems the lovely friction free surface that is white road paint still had a healthy coating of ice. Complete backwheel fail.

I remember once following my mate whilst bombing a huge hill with a mini roundabout at the bottom. We were flying down the hill and the easiest line to take was straight over the roundabout. We must have been pushing a good 30 mph and as we get to within 5 metres of it we both let out a simultaneous 'FFFFFFUUUUUUCCCCKKKK!!!' it wasn't a hump style one but a raised one with a 6 inch high kerb style edge, not what you want to be hitting at the speed we were going. Cue both of us pulling off emergency 'do or die' bunnyhops that had to clear at least 9 foot, we did it but were absolutely buzzing after, our eyes looked like we had munched a handful of ecstasy.

  • Wore different shoes than usual in straps so had to adjust etc, came into uni skidding to a stop infront of about 30 people however i didn't realise that because i was wearing slightly larger shoes than normal and that i had done my straps up way to tight once i stopped and tried to dismount by removing my feet from the straps i couldnt.

Result was that because of my skid people were looking at me thinking i was showing off so i had a nice audience of fellow students to laugh at me as i just toppled to the side whilst still clipped into my bike, grazed an arm but that was about it, i bet it looked pretty funny though.

  • About six months ago, hadn't rained in weeks and then absolutely lashed one day, literally crawling along on cobbles and the bike just flipped out from under me, not even slid actually flipped so the bars and saddle were on the ground, two girls ran over and seemed very worried and I just go up grumbling and went to the pub... sore wrist and knee but no injuries touch wood

  • Actually wait that's a lie, about two months ago I got so drunk I can't remember cycling home but I obviously fell on the way home and broke my foot... Couldn't walk for days... Forgot about that one, lol

  • focused by a car on clerkenwell. drivers fault, mashed by front wheel, claimed a new wheelset from condor, excellent news.

  • 8 inches of snow, still snowing, drunk, night time, and the way to a girls house... and on my fast geared bike.

  • Few weeks ago into a pedestrian who ran in front of me. Unavoidable. No pain or anything for a couple of days, but it developed into internal bruising that's still agony now, especially when I cough/sneeze.
