I found this pic on FGG and I would like us to have a frank and upfront discussion folks: Is having deep V's on one wheel and not the other a bit off or does it give the bike a bit of pizzazz?

• #9404
Very pengy

That bike has far too slack geometry to carry off any deep section rims, let alone just one. Fugly

• #9406
it's just a shit conversion with generic hipster parts.

If you're really worried about rust, just do an oxalic acid bath...and framesave it. that will remove 99.99% of the rust and prevent rust from happening again...and be 10x cheaper and probably offer more protection than powdercoating since powdercoating doesnt actually treat/remove the rust...it just covers up the problem. you wont have to tarck up your vintage frame and ruin a sweet, original paint job...

So thought it was the best way around things.
Waiting for Planet X to confirm my order.

Got the omega 19s in the front room (thanks Jammy- lovely)

ive put the original saddle back now (you can see it in the b+w photos. The chainguard was pretty damaged, bent and cracked. -

the colnago looks lovely. don't like the anatomics, a set of trad bend bars would look 'right' but everything else looks lush.
actually thinking about it some white bar tape and the lariest pair of brightly coloured disco slippers would really finish it off :-)
how much £wedge was it?

For some reason this conversion appeals to me. Not because of the aesthetics mind. I like to think of it as a gestural statement on the notion of classics or old masters, like when the Chapman brothers drew clown faces on a stack of Goya drawings, rather than just plain vandalism.
-
• #9421
i don't think they can be compared.
-
• #9422
As soon as you compare a bike to an entry for the Turner prize it instantly becomes bullshit.. The fact that the conversion in question was bullshit to begin with is besides my point.

Ummar your augment if flawed. they destroyed art that was all ready challenging descriptions of hell, to make work that will no longer have relevance in 100 years time, unlike the original Goyas, that will still have power.
the Chapman brothers are just average sensationalists sucking on the teat of Saatchi. the bike was beautiful.........it is now a unipac wannabe. -

I just think that if someone is going to rape an old frame like that they either don't know / value what they have, or they do and they just don't give a fuck.
It's much more interesting to think that they don't give a fuck. By completely disregarding norms of good taste and lacking any desire to preserve something for prosperity; the owner is saying something about his own mortality. Just a thought.
Or he's just an idiot, and I should stop trying to find someway of justifying him......
it's all the rage.
it'll be all about the penny farthings this time next year.
