  • what happen to silencer 7? did one or some of them go into a band that was/is on inatthedeependrecords? cant remember what band though

  • Haha, yeah I think the Racehorse is still in business, and still exactly as you remember it. Don't get into Northampton much these days. That back room was quite a big deal for hardcore bands back then. Sounds like we may well have windmilled each other at some point.

Don't remember Silencer Seven but I do have vague recollections of one band who were often on the bill stripping to the grundies, guess that would be Assert then.

They had to rename themselves to Anthem of the Century (Aussie band had same name and served on o' them 'cease and desist' orders on them), then signed to Join the Team Player records. They disbanded, and Del went on to do Sworn In, who signed to Bridge 9. I don't think they've done anything since, although members of Sworn In may now be in... hmm, Silicon Vultures, and, er, Jealous (I think). Can't say I liked any of it tbh.

  • Oh, also IATDE records, Ricky from S7 did Steel Rules Die. Maybe Dave joined the Osterman Weekend? They were both on that label.

Cheesus I haven't thought about this for ages, fun to get the dormant knowledge exercised!

  • Tom - are you still looking for a guitarist? What sort of influences?

I was about to post asking for a hXc drummer, if anyone on here matches the description.

  • Yeah, the bike band still hasn't got off the ground. A genuine guitarist would be good, as it might mean that I wouldn't have to try and play guitar (or at least not on my own).

I think we were looking at doing something generically hardcore-y, we'd not decided to aim for anything specific. What is it that you want to do?

A few drummers kicking around, but I'm not sure how available they are...

  • I don't mind as long as it's guitar based. Have you got the rest of the band together? Where are you based? Always up for new music projects.

  • It's Matt(baddesigner) on drums, I'll play bass or alternatively Smallbrownbike will play bass and I'll play second guitar. xSheepx was going to sing but he's permanently on tour so that might not be practical.

There are other possibilities if any of the above are too busy for it. Do you ever come down to polo? It would be fun to meet you.

  • I've been down once to pick up a shirt off Matt. I'm away this weekend but I'll come down next and say hi. See you then dude.

  • I'm more of a metal fan, but I do like Raised Fist. and where it gets closer to thrash, like storm troopers of death.

  • Reviving this thread.

I've been listening to Jerry's Kids so much recently! IS THIS IT? IS THIS... MY WORLD?!

Anyway what new bits are people listening to at the moment in terms of hardcore?
Been fully into the Waste Management 7 since seeing them at the A7 reunion in NYC and also saw a cool band from Belgium (belgians are so good at everything... cycling, hardcore, chips...) called **Bite Down **at the weekend - sounded like Dead Stop reincarnated and have the bassist from Damaged Goods on guitar. Also really into Logic Problem from North Carolina, Vicous Cycle from Canada somewhere and Extortion from Aus.

    Anyone fancy swapping mixtapes?

  • Loads of memories for me reading this thread.
Imbalance were awesome, best thing (only good thing?) ever to come out of Grimsby.
Avail were always a favourite, punk **rock. **I recently saw Shot Baker, who've got the same sort of vibe going on.
Assert? Oh dear. I'm pretty sure they're still hiding in my CD collection...

  • I use to go to quite a few HC gigs when I lived in Sweden, Refused, Abinanda, Nine, Division of laura lee. The HC scene was quite big in the 90's. Still into it, but more metal and Rock n Roll on my ipod now days.

  • I would chop my face off to have one more album out of Hiretsukan.

  • chain of strength

  • i play guitar pretty well been in a few hardcore bands, probably none you'd know, the permanent, this time around, and fading fast.

  • i acutally started a band with Del for a while, we had a few practises but it never got off the ground, it was kinda san diego style like swing kids, really loud.

Definitely saw The Permanent at some point, am struggling to remember where though.

  • @diable - Hey Grandad - Great i thought - a punk thread as I was probably a punk before anyone else here but children today huh? A passing reference to the Dead Kennedys and THAT IT! Very very disappointed.

I was a Bauhaus, Siouxie's, Caberet Voltaire fan and some others I can't remember then went soft into Japan, Krafwerk, Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schultz

I remember all the Punks on the Kings Road Chelsea them where the fun days ;o)))

  • I love Minor Threat and Fugazi. Last time I went to a hardcore show I was stunned by the extent to which it seems to have become a fashion club. Even compared to '96-'01 (just before guitars became cool again) when I went to as many punk rock gigs as I could. Anyway, I'm far too into embarassing electro-ish tat and reggae these days to really care.

Having said that I'd love to be pointed in the direction of some good stuff where my lack of tattoos won't effect my credibility too much.

I remember seeing Fugazi in the early 90's. In the mosh pit there was a drunk moron being a little bit too aggressive in the pit so Ian stopped the show and warned the dude to take it easy. They started back up and sure enough the drunk dude acted up, swinging arms, kicking everyone. He stopped the show, pulled out an envelope out of his back pocket and said "here's your money back, get the fuck out!". Apparently he did that at a lot of shows.

These days, go to a hardcore show and you're guaranteed a broken nose if you go within 3 inches of the pit. Doesn't stop me going though. :)

About the tats, there's an old saying: the only difference between tattooed people and those without tattoos is that tattooed people don't care if you don't have them.

These bands have been taking up a lot of my listening time recently:

me too, I lived just over Battersea bridge and worked on the King's Road in the early eighties, by then Punk had faded a little, it was more proto goth like Bauhaus, Theatre of Hate and The Southern Death Cult, who were great, rockabilly and white funk.
The punks on the King's road were more of a tourist attraction than anything by then, they charged for photos.

I wore clothes out of Johnson's and American Classics, wish I still had them.

I was never really into The Pistols, they were more like a boy band, svengali manager, stylist etc. The Clash were much better.

I've seen The Permanent and This Time Around, in Sheffield I believe (or somewhere in the midlands). Weren't you guys gonna support the Count Me Out tour (er, I guess this is about 6 years ago now eh) with Kill The Lights? Are you from Sheffield, perchance?

I'm having a Umea moment right now. I know about, er, zero other people into Abhinanda though. Congrats on being the first! I only have the '96 s/t, but Senseless was my favourite album - Competition in Hatred is a classic.

    Reviving this thread.

Speaking of which, Tom dear - me, Matt, Lex, Max and Rox are gonna have a lil Thursday night reunion at Rock City pretty soon (half term?). You in? Gather troops.
