  • ^^ ahem, don't change the subject, i want a full public appologie and 10 pounds in the drink/forum/fund.

  • ^^ ahem, risers?

i was thinking bullhorns would look pretty nice

    frame

    • bars

    • wheels

= something i want very very much
  • Santa's been!!

  • Caveat with beltdrive bicycles: requires new bike or having a coupler added to your current bike... I'm still waiting for one of you to make the switch.

  • Italian Santa?

  • Caveat with beltdrive bicycles: requires new bike or having a coupler added to your current bike

For mass production, I'd have thought an elevated chainstay design would make more sense, like a B'Twin Triban or the old Nishiki Alien. More idiot-proof than a coupler, and probably cheaper to produce.

  • Huh... that's certainly an interesting thought; sounds like a reasonable solution to me.

  • Trek have a mass produced belt-drive bike for 2009, Specialized too i think.

I guess they'd be whisper quiet.

  • BTW i in no way think these bikes are porn.

Enough... i give up finding the Spesh.

  • what if i want to shorten the belt?

  • You'd have to buy a whole new bike.

  • ...or loose a few teeth off the front ring.

    ...where is this going eddie?

    :-/

  • what if i want to shorten the belt?

At the length/pitch/width used for a bicycle, standard belt length increments are about 25-50mm, which is like adding/subtracting 1 or 2 pairs of 1/2" chain links. On the other hand, if you're fussy enough to be thinking about gearing options, you'd be using a chain anyway.

trying to find proof that we don't need them, they are shit, inventors should move along and find somewhere else to get their money from.

Tired of stupid "so called necessary, ones you can't live without" upgrades, they can all fuck off

    that is all, goodnight

  • Gandhi... is that you?

Hub gears have remained popular for over half a century mainly by providing some of the benefits attributed to belt drives, i.e. (in conjunction with a full enclosure chain case) low maintenance and cleanliness, in spite of significantly lower initial drive train efficiency compared with derailleurs.

In this niche, the belt drive looks like a natural progression to even cleaner and even lower maintenance drives. It's not for the likes of us, and nobody is pretending that it is.

I think it's an epic fail waiting to happen for fixed drive, due to the aforementioned foreign object damage (FOD) issue. On a freewheel utility bike, a stone between belt and sprocket will likely stop the user from pedalling before it does any harm. On a fixed, momentum will provide the force needed to destroy the drive train. Check the 'chain guard' on this Buell http://z.about.com/d/motorcycles/1/0/5/6/-/-/1125RBeltDrive_KW.jpg for the precautions needed against FOD

what the fuck?! are you those type of people who rather use oil instead of electricity in Lighthouses??

they are good for fuckoff big motorbikes, ffs.

how much torque is a man gonna produce??

if you can't get that in your head Eduard, I don't know what else can.

  • I for one welcome it, for belt drive porn, the fixie inc. one is pretty nice;

the biggest advantage of a fixed wheel bicycle is that you don't even need to look after it, the only thing you would need to look after are simply the chainset.

the belt drive eliminate that, on a fixed wheel bicycle - it's almost 100% maintenance-free.

  • except maybe changing the tyres....

  • well, as for tyres, it's varies really, touring tyres would pretty much last a while than puncture-resistance tyres.

  • fixie inc's new upcoming version of their peacemaker-model will coming only with belt drive!
and there's another small german company, they selling also belt-driven bikes, but i foregt their name.

  • This is absolutely stunning, wooden rims FTW :D

If only the strangely modern looking crank arm didn't look so out of place :(

    Want the rest though...

  • This is a pretty bike. 2010 Cannondale Super Six
