I managed to misthread a derailleur on my road bike whilst working late and beering. I rode the bike to work the next day and didn't notice the drag or the noise until the chain finally snapped after 3 miles.

Moral of the story: don't be a spanner when you drink.

Moral of the story: no matter how late it is always test ride it first after spannering, you can then drink all you want.
My forks broke inside the steering tube once whilst riding along, that is a bloody awful feeling when the control disappears.
Finally put a new stem on the Colnago and re-wrapped the bars. Finished late last night, after a few beers....for this read caution.
So this morning I take it for the first ride and take the opportunity to monster a big gear the full length of gower st. Topping 30, I pop up on to the horns to stop for an unavoidable red light at gt russell st, hit the brakes and the handlebars swivel all the way around in the stem...ARGHHHHHHHHHHH.
JUST managed, to slew off to the left and get in the drops fast enough to brake before flattening some poor peds on the crossing.
Moral of the story: don't drink and spanner.
