My friend Marco has this one in the light green colour: http://www.urbanhunter.biz/shop/catalogue.php?item_id=767
It is well worth the extra, very nice bag, and compresses down to quite a good comapct size when you don't need it to be really massive, plus the x-strap/additional shoulder strap, make a BIG difference to stability when carrying really heavy loads. I would say it is worthwhile to save up, and spend the extra for something that will last you ages long term, and can be used for everything from short rides to big shopping loads.

Thanks for the replys everyone :) much appreciated
Crazy james - what size do you think would be good, im looking to take about 4 folders a load of text books, shoes, blazer trousers and a towel? and then possible some rowing kit (shoes, all in one (dont ask) and a tshirt)
oh and whats the difference between the one i posted and the one you posted apart from the second should strap and larger size, the first one has a antisway strap so i dont understand whats the advantage unless im carrying massive loads -

Both BRM and Prav have chicago wig bags....They've always been a favourite of mine. Isaac makes great bags IMO....i know both BRM and Prav have certain things they're not 100% happy with but on the whole i think they'd recommend them too.
You buy direct from Chicago Wig...email Isaac direct from the website. -

Chrome bags are assymetrically designed so that they fit over one shoulder. You can chose left or right when purchasing. As a result, they fit very very well.
The "no padding" thing is kind of a ridiculous complaint, but it's true. Truth be told, I've never even thought about it "needing" padding because i pack my bag well, and frankly if somethign is digging into my back, a few cm of padding isn't going to do much. Anyway, if you think you need it, there's a useless space you can slide a piece of foam which is between the waterproof liner and the outside of the bag. Presto. You have padding.(i know this was said above, but i wanted to clearly state it.)
Another nice feature of the chrome bags are the flap deisgn. The sides of the flap kind of folds over on itself when the bag is closed, making any kind of water entry throught he sides basically impossible. Hard to explain, but trust me. it's well deisgned.
I had a Timbuk2 back in the day, and sure it lasted, but it's designed with about as much thought as a cardboard box.
I've had my Chrome for the past 4 years.

thanks or the review jersey, i think i might go with one of the wig bags when i choose to purchase one, they seem very well made and have alot of good reviews. Also the guy says he can do loads of extras etc so sounds rather promising
Thanks everyone for the input

.No padding is a big minus to me....it's surprising what a difference a well padded back panel makes
Regarding the flap....it's another thing that i'm surprised more companies don't do...especially companies making one piece bags...they suffer the most from gappy sides when the bag is full....sure they're fine when they have nothing in them, but put a box in there and you have big gaps on a lot of bags. -

but not yours scott! :D i think i will probably put off a messenger bag until i manage to build a fixed gear once i get that out the way il try and get one of your bags as they are the most highly regarded bag :D
-
• #37
you don't need a fixed wheel bicycle to take advantage of a messenger bag!!
-
• #38
haha i know! but its my top priority at the moment then get a messenger bag, then commute to school/college on it (depending when i finish building up a fixed gear and buying a messenger bag) hehe

Bagjack is also a good option, get a German speaking friend to order;P

I'd say bagjacks are super tough and well made but if you are spending that amount of money (shit euro doesn't help either) you might as well get a grobag.

I've got a timbuk2 messenger XL guy - it's alright.. does the job.. Upgrade the strap with one of the extra grippy wrap-around things - stops it slipping all the time.
However I have had to put a big piece of cardboard in the back to stop contents poking me in the back. And I do find myself adjusting it whilst riding.. I'm sure there are better bags out there, but to be honest I only wear it for communting, it's bloody huge (which is great as I take a change of clothes/hard drive/ diaries and other crap with me a lot) .. and I've spent 70 quid on it so I'll stick with it for a while.
If I was a courier riding all day I'd probably change to something else.. but to be honest. There are other bike related things I'd rather spend my money on.. like bikes :)
My mate Marco does, very nice quality bags for the price, not quite up there with Pac and Archies, but about as close as it gets, probably better than chrome to I think.
