Yes I did see that thread when i did a seach but didnt see any route on there.

You could take the Grand Union Canal all the way.

On the roads you'll want to stick close to the A5 as much as possible all the way to Cannock and then the same with the A34 into Manchester.

Not good at all, it's a dual carriageway in parts and used by a lot of HGV's
