  • Well, I joined today - cheers. Hope this goes well - some of the other forums are getting a bit sad. This one looks lively and some good advice by the looks of it.
I'm in Central Scotland but in London now and again and visit my brother in Kent.

  • I've slightly reduced the nursery threshold now. It's only 3 posts and 24 hours.

Basically the spammers last week forced me to build in a lot of new stuff to fight spam, and that looks like it is working, so I think I can reduce the threshold fractionally.

However it's still a good process to prevent human spam (i.e. people paid to spam rather than bots), and it still also spares new members from posting dumb questions that will likely prematurely damage their forum rep... as always if you've just arrived you are advised to search first.

  • Great, thanks. This is my third post. Been perusing the forum for a bit, commute from N London into Soho most days.

  • CMatt, have you read the first post in this thread? It's quite important.

  • Apologies, didn't read the rules. Very Sorry.

    C

  • I did what your not supposed to do, sorry.
I'm trying to get on the forum to post some bike porn i made, look here and let me in, :)

  • So... not only do you post loads to beat the nursery, you wanted to do so to post some readers wives images?

Sheesh. I need to make the nursery move severe.

  • So... not only do you post loads to beat the nursery, you wanted to do so to post some readers wives images?

Sheesh. I need to make the nursery move severe.

Especially as it appears to be one of those readers wives only the husband could love.

  • Firstly, as I have just joined and therefore, this is my first post, i'd like to say a big hi to all on here.
I have been a cyclist for over 30 yrs but have only just started riding single speed after converting an old Raleigh Royale I picked up. I have immediately got hooked and now looking to buy a second one, this time with a flip-flop hub so I can enjoy the pleasure of the fixed wheel. I also will be fixing an old mountain bike up too, but that's a work in progress.
I've currently been enjoying looking at the bike porn on the forum and more so, the anti porn.....hilarious.
I am living in Reading and so if Ska-49, or anyone else in this area, wants to hook up, give me a shout.
    Cheers peeps,
    Chili

  • Hey Moocher....sorry, wasn't until I re-read all the threads that I noticed you're also in Reading.
No, not too many SS/FG's around here, maybe too hilly, but i've only just started looking. There is a guy on a drop handled racer, FG i think, who i've seen cycling Spencers Wood way. I struggle on a couple of hills, but I put that down to having a 52/16 set up! Ennerdale,Cressingham,Alpine all great going down but buggered if i can make it up....ha ha! It's very quick along any of the flats though.
Anyway, drop me a line if you like?

  • Welcome, Chili. Exemplary Nursery posts.

  • Hello all,
I'm newly lurking and keen to happily lurk and have a few private chats.
Still new to the whole cycling thing and quite impressed but the fixed wheel people around London. When I get my own I'll def. be a more active participant. But for now I'll just say Hi and go back to lurking.

  • Happy lurking.

  • should have read this thread first

  • Thanks Oliver,
I'm looking forward to contributing more here too, although I mainly use forums as sources of info when i've not had much luck trawling websites.
Hopefully t hook up with other FG/SS riders here in Reading.
    Happy cycling,
    Chili

  • palsten, whats so urgent that you need to run the risk of having to go through the nursery again, by posting five inane posts in this thread, have you not read the very first post in this thread.
Go spend some time reading the threads available to you, enjoy the banter, figure out how not ask a question thats been asked a hundred times already...

  • 48 hours, what does that mean 48hours, ................blah blah...................... arithmetically posting thingies

    why shakes head

  • and five postings? in different or same threads? do you understand the epistemological chaos you have instituted, four now i think

Think he may have stumbled onto a good idea here.....

If people had to post on 5 different threads, rather than just 5 posts, wouldn't it stop people just posting 5 posts in one thread?

  • sam, what happens is that causes yet more pain as new members dredge up threads from way back in ought seven, when the forum was bright and new and had nary more than five hundred members. Thread ressurection is only worth it when ypu've got something to add, or a question to ask. Random postings just bring the pain.

Don't want to tell you what you may already know (you've probably already read the first post in this thread) the nursery is to help new members acclimatise to the place, get a feel for the level of debate, banter, do a bit of searching for the answers to their questions, rather than jumping in with both hands on the keyboard and being either ignored, ridiculed, or rebuked, which leads to a bruised internet alias ego...
