  • Hey, ok so what are your opinions on track frames around £250
i've pretty much given up on buying a frame off here as nothing is to my taste or too big/small for me. so far i quite like the look of the surly steam roller
http://velospace.org/node/4197 - here, i love the green on this.
    any good advice?

    Thanks,
    Will

  • How about a green Surly Steamroller?

  • At that price, I'd go for a Nelson. £225 inc fork, means yiou have £25 to put towards a respray if RW&B ain't your thing......

  • dolan pre-cursa is supposed to be quite nice as well and sits in your budget as well.

  • hmmm that nelson looks quite nice. . . shame its aluminium, i would prefer steel as chances are i will bash it round a fair bit :)

@DMCzone - they dont do a green one! :( il have to get it powder coated if i want it done and i dont know anywhere in the west midlands that powder coat (im sure there are though)
@marcoisapolo i cant stand Dolans, they just look so, cheap. not a fan of them at all!

  • My point is there was no info provided to help us determine what would appeal to you, besides a Steamroller.

More info if you want useful input.

  • OK fair point :) im looking for steel preferably, small tubing no big stuff like the dolan (although that nelson does have appeal) 700c forks, 110/120mm rear spacing and myabe the front drilled for a brake

is that ok or do you need more?

what!? i already posted that picture as well. . hehe

  • you still got that john?

  • Talk to someone at Cavendish. They can get Iro frames. The Mark V would be a good choice (4130 tubing) or for around £250 the Angus (Reynolds 631 – 1" tubing and 1" threaded steerer etc).

Brick Lane Bikes have a there own frame for £175 (although that may have changed).

  • not in london so i cant :(

  • you still got that john?

Nah, it's grey now with all Thompson stuff for it.
Awaiting rims to be painted and me to buy some spokes..

Going to look fucking awesome, next summer or whenever I pull my finger out.

  • not in london so i cant :(

  • ok im confused now!?

  • Go to / call a bike shop... they sell things.

    geddit?

    ffs

  • Yeah but if he goes to a shop they will just advise him to buy a Langster(not that there is anything wrong with a Langster per say).
Personally if I was going to get any otp I would buy a Kona Paddywagon and powdercoat the frame and change the handlebars from drops to risers.

If you can source one though, buy a Steamroller, those things rock.

  • Ok. Did you read my post? I named 2 shops where they won't tell him to buy a Langster. They both had phones last time I called them.

Last time I called they told me they didn't have a phone and that I should come round to the shop instead.

  • haha.

  • ok sorry miro

    No worries.

Cavendish are a 'proper' bike shop, and definitely worth a visit if you can get into London some time. There you can see a range of steel track frames in and out of your budget. You can touch/smell 'em, ride a few etc. They'll give good advice too.

If you can get down there in the week... even better (less hectic).

  • Where are you located?

What size frame do you need?

  • how come no one recomends brixton cycles ?????????????, i have always found them to be the best, no bs lbs. and in south london !!!!! they also are really into fixed.
