The very nature of an emergency stop is that the situation is unavoidable. Kids running out in the road, cars pulling out suddenly from a side road because they didn't see you etc. You can't predict everything out there.
Besides, if the overlap happens when the guy behind starts going faster than you, you sure as hell will feel it, a lot.
