but I love that bike and I'd rather try to sell it to someone who'll appreciate it too and keep it as it is.
I understand your feeling mate, I sold my Peugeot to someone that I think will appreciate it the most, even thought I have better offer for it!
a year later, saw the same lass on my old bike that still in perfect working order.

sry, i didnt read the rest of the 4 pages but if you still didnt find your answer:
push down with your back foot and lift up with your front foot (assuming you are strapped/clipped in)

Just grip it and rip it.

yeah, they're a bit long for me.. unless you've got a super high bb. When I built it I was using it as a bit of a do-all set up (hence gears and longer cranks).. but now I want to build a ss jump bike with a smaller frame, just a back brake and some BMX cranks maybe.

With the amount of asshole drivers on the road im surprised we don't have 4 brakes on our bikes.

What happens on a long descent where you cant keep up with the spinning, or want to slow because there is poor grip (rain drains etc) you gonna do skids every few metres?
What happens when you are going too fast round a corner afraid of pedal strike/slipping on drain. If you try to skid while turning sharply you will easily spin out.
What happens when you are stuck in traffic and have to continually accellerate and stop abruptly - very tiring without a brake.
What happens in any true 'emergency stop' ? how many long time experienced brakeless riders can say they could stop suddenly for something they really werent expecting (with two brakes, or one brake + fixed wheel, stopping is very fast & controlled)
What happens when you get a rear flat when going at speed?
And a big one, what happens if your chain snaps? What happens if you just Harden The Fuck Up?

I just bought myself my first fixed gear bike.
And i'm having trouble braking.
I've tried locking my legs but i cant get the wheels to stop turning.
They just force my legs around.
Any ideas why ?Thanks
Can we please pleaseeeee put this quote in the lfgss book, that'd be awesome...
K thnx bi.

if you're skidding, you're not stopping.
skids are for flids. resisting and hopping are for people who know how to control a bike with their legs.
a few years ago, if you saw someone riding fixed, brakeless, you could rightly assume they were a skilled bike rider. These days it would be right to assume the opposite.

dude, so true. +1

Each unto their own I guess. Darwin always gives me hope. The theory of evolution says that brakeless riders will either get more skilled and live or be less skilled and fail to reproduce...
As for BMX's, their image has been badly damaged by 16 year old kids who steal things and ride around with 4 inches of arsecrack showing because their jeans don't fit. If I bought one I would instantly be sterotyped as a granny stabbing rude ugly teenager (which I like to think im not).

It's disgusting, a few years ago, only fat builders were allowed to show more than two inches of buttock-crack, these johnny-come-lately kids don't even know how to whistle properly. They've probably never even ordered sausage and double-egg

Just waiting for a lever to come in the post and for the time being i'm brakeless. I could always 'skid' before with risers but since putting drops on (b123 38cm) i can't do it for shit! Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. Sorry for bumping an old thread but saves doing a new one. Cheers.
-
• #367
No.. but quite a few forumers seem to have a problem stopping and then they have a problem with their front wheels not turning any more because they have a problem with their clearances after they had a problem with the rear bumper of a cab.
-
• #368
personally i find it easier with risers. it depends on more than just the 'type of bars'.

nope. why would it make a difference?

No idea, drops feel bit weird to skid in and on the tops i guess hands feel a bit close together. Should have the brake lever in a day or two so it was purely just out of interest. Cheers.

i hate riding brakeless .. purely because you go so fucking slow.
-
• #372
I have done before because i thought it looked cool, but you will never ride about fast as you would with a brake(s) on purely becasue you need to slow down 10m before a junction, well i did. I like the idea/simplicity of it but i couldn't get to grips with it. Just seems even harder with drops for some reason!
-
• #373
haha, ironic how riding brakeless can be harder with drops..
-
• #374
I ride with drops (Cinelli Pista's), brakeless and I can skid fine. I don't have my hands next to the stem though, that's just awkward.

Maybe you do, doesn't mean everyone does.

Monster-bars™ ftw, although to be fair I could skid/stop just as easy on my old (normal width) risers, but silly wide bars make everything easier....apart from cutting through traffic, although i'm used to it now!
I reckon if you're gonna be doing "stem-crotch hipster™" skids up to junctions then it will take you ages to stop, but you if you do little whip out/sharp skids you can stop within a couple of metres from 20+mph quite quickly, as happy gilmores teacher once said "its all in the hips" ;)
But if you're not comfortable/enjoying riding your bike as it's set up, then you should change it until you are.
