Sustrans & Cycling Charities

  • Anyone got any views on Sustrans?

And can anyone recommend other charities?

I am thinking of doing some fundraising and need some suggestions.

    Thanks

  • Sustrans are a decent enough charity. I don't use the routes that they set up much but think that they are useful to help the less confident cyclist get out and about. Certainly things like their safe routes to school campaign was a good idea.

What sort of focus would you like your chosen charity to have? (Campaigning on rights, practical support for cyclists, social activities etc)

  • Emmeff is your man for this one

  • I like re-cycle.

    Seems like good sustainable help.

  • To be honest, at this stage I have no clear goals. I just want to build up a list of cycling charities.

In fact, GA2G might be interested in this too.

I just want to read and learn about what there is in the UK and potentially how to get involved. :)

  • It really depends on what you want to support.

At national level, you want to support the CTC.

If you're particularly interested in London, you want to support the LCC. (Disclaimer: I'm a trustee, so please see this recommendation in this light.)

  • Already a member of the latter. :)

  • As eightball said, get in touch with emmeff if you want to know all about Sustrans. He's shown me some of the work he does with schools and it all looks pretty cool - getting more kids cycling to school, mechanics, storage, cycling in PE (how cool is that??), and even got one school to clear out their own little off road track on the school grounds.
