Good looking 25.4mm post

  • Hi,

    I'm building up an old carlton (my first fixed and my first build). It has an old style seat post where the post and the clamp that locks it onto the seat are separate.

    I was hoping to get a new-style adjustable one - ideally fluted or aero like these. The problem is its 25.4mm.

    The question is should I:

    1. keep looking for fluted/aero in 25.4mm;
    2. buy a new plain adjustable seatpost b/c it will be lighter than my current setup;
    3. keep the current setup; or
    4. is there some clever way of changing the seattube size?

    Also its a bugget build so I dont want to spend the earth.

    Any advice very welcome.

  • I think most BMX seatposts are 25.4, you could probably get a bargain on ebay as the kids are into new 1inch long pivotal posts and the like.

    Most alloy aero posts are rather heavy, plus very rare in a small size like that.

  • Thanks for the advice.

  • If you can get away with a pretty short post, I recommend one of these: http://www.alansbmx.com/product_info.php?cPath=32_58&products_id=2070&osCsid=a38b53dd5b0c292694adfb29868b8b16

    Lighter than the equivalent length thompson, very strong
    (I used to ride one on my bmx and I break shit real easy!), and reasonably priced, plus the fact that it uses a standard clamp system means you can fit any ol seat, pivotal posts are real good but it means your choice of seat is restricted only to seats that fit that propietary system.

  • That demolition post is pretty expensive. Odyssey do a post in that size caled the intac thats cheaper and just as good.

    and thomson do a really nice one too.

    Alans have kalloy ones listed for £10.99

  • Thanks guys. Was really hoping there would be a cool pivotal post that would fit with an old racer.

    Think I'm jsut going to stick with the old post and separate clamp. I've cleaned them up a bit so its not too shabby.

  • The thompson equivalent is even more expensive, and the odyssey is no where near as light, the demolition post is ridiculously light, and just as strong as the Odyssey.

  • Is the demolition adjustable? - ie tilting up and down?

  • Yup.
