Great post, Furtwangler. This is the kind of publicity that small businesses like this, who often provide great service, need.

I've been "bigging up" Scherrit and Corinne since I found them. Fantastic couple. Fantastic service.
One of only two bike shops in the world to make it onto my homepage. Oh how privileged they must feel ;)How did you find out about them Furtwangler?

Hi Hippy,
I found out from this thread:
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread18443.html
My only wish it that it was easier to find places like this.
Just on Friday I watched a documentary at the Prince Charles cinema about the Junior Eurovision Song Contest - literally the funniest thing I have seen in years, yet I went totally on the last minute. To think I nearly didn't watch such a good, obscure film is a tradegy. To not find places like the Bike Whisperer is also a tradegy! I also find this problem particularly pronounced in london - so many cool little places, but they need to be found....
Out of interest what is the other bike shop on your homepage?

How do they fit you?
Lemond measurements, ie body measurments X , or is it that as a basic and then adjust to meet your body and riding .
Or are they heel on the pedal traditionalists ....
-
• #8
they're not heel on toe traditionalists, nor are they lemond method - They are far more Andy Pruitt. Scherrit has a Masters in Physiology and he uses this knowledge combined v.good experience & bike knowledge. I've had a bike fit there and thoroughly recommend them. (will be going back soon for my adjustment session!)

I shall pay them a visit.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. I'll link to Evans instead.

I found Bike Whisperer when at a local hair dressers and talking about cycling he mentions some guy up the road who works from his house. I take their card and ask them about something or other. Now I hassle them all the time. I just love that they're bike geeks too :)
I mentioned to them their website needs some tweaking and told them to get their business on google maps because at the moment "ealing bike shops" doesn't bring them up. Scherrit reckons he's been mega busy so maybe he doesn't need the extra business?
The other shop is Croydon Cycleworks. If I was to return to Melbourne I'd head straight there to
give Mick shitbuy my bike stuff. -

Not been to Croydon but its near me so I will give it a look.
Scherrit mentioned you actually Hippy.
Something along the lines of silly aussie twat? :)

Croydon in Melbourne, Australia.
"Hi Scherrit, it's the silly Aussie twat from down the road" is how I typically start my request for help. :)
We talked about this thread today actually. When I'm done with Ireland I'm going to see him about building and fitting my TT bike since I've no idea when it comes to TT machines.

I thought you were the encyclopedia of bikes.
Another forum myth shattered.

You should have UTFS. ;)

I thought you were the encyclopedia of bikes.
Another forum myth shattered.I might've read a lot about TTing compared to the average forumenger but I've never owned a TT-specific machine one so wouldn't want to claim to know much about them..
I mean, it's just a bike with different angles and funny bars so most of it I'm ok with :) -

Shit, now my lines are being nicked.. my hold here is slipping.. time to find a new forum to whore myself on..

Scherrit and Corrine are friends of mine and we're clubmates in Twickenham CC.
Apart from being the biggest bike geeks in London, offering the best fitting and spannering service around (who else do you know that rebuilds Campag ergo levers?) if you want to get fitter and faster on your bike, Scherrit also offers a very reasonably priced coaching package.

That wasn't your black Ribble in there was it?

Campag ergo-lever rebuilding service noted for future reference :-)

Nope - I do all my own spannering :)

Amazing, these guys are two roads away from me!
-
• #25
Which means you might very well live on my street.. be afraid... be very afraid..
Just came back today from the fitting service from these guys and it was excellent! I've only been riding a few months on the road so I wasn't surprised to learn that my positioning was way out.
What I was surprised about was how friendly Bike Whisperer are! Scherrit - one half of the married couple who run the company - is a track racer, very passionate and possesses an encyclopaedic knowledge. All round great guy.
One other massive benefit is that you can go back free of charge, after riding for a while and make any changes/discuss your requirements should you need to. This is the kind of ongoing relationship that makes expenditure worthwhile in my opinion and differentiates one place from another.
As for comparing to cyclefit - it uses less technology (note, however, I have not actually done cyclefit), but is roughly half the price, at £85, which was the clincher for me. I have no idea if this would therefore suit an experienced rider who is looking for exceptional fine tuning, but I equally have no idea if such technological terrors are actually of any benefit.
What is indisputable, however, and what I feel comfortable suggesting given my limited knowledge, is that this must surely be the place to go for repair work. I will certainly use if I cannot do the repair for whatever reason myself. Given that this was a 35 mile round trip for me that is quite a testament to how satisfying it is to receive such personal service! I felt like I could have chatted about bikes for hours. This is what bike shops should be like. I think as cyclists we should actively be seeking out places like this.
10/10.
