No. Impossible.

Thanks for the speedy reply, could you elaborate?
Seems perfectly possible to me but, but I'm told the ride would be rubbish -
• #4
Yeah, it's impossible. You can tell by the picture that the geometry you're suggesting is only possible with one crank and a rubber band instead of a chain. This will have a huge impact on handling.

Cinelli mash?
Why would the ride be rubbish? it's the same as a lo pro.

helpful point... and well made..
Again, same question. Lets try a different example
Cinelli mash?
Why would the ride be rubbish? it's the same as a lo pro.
Thats the frame I'm got the idea from. problem is I'm tall and I want a slightly longer steering tube. but I have been told by the shop its just not possible -I cant understand why
-

ask a framebuilder.
it will cost you a significant amount of money, but they can pretty much build what ever you ask for. -
• #9
i've got a 59 fbm sword frame and thats got a slight forward slope on it

I'm absolutely sure that building a frame with track geometry but a downward sloping top tube IS possible, I'm in the process of ordering something very similar myself and Landshark make one;
What you can't do is build it with lugs, has to be fillet brazed or tig welded. You say you want a longer head tube, how much longer? Coz obvioulsy having a downward sloping seat tube is going to reduce the hight of the head tube, this might be where you run into difficulty. Good luck and let us all know how you get on :)

I mean yeah, you can get them, but you can only get them with a Land Shark paint job. And no-one wants that.

I thought it was a fairly basic request, I'm only talking about a couple of inches between the top tube and down tube. The frame will be fillet brazed so the angles shouldnt be a problem. The photoshops give an accurate idea of the head tube in proportion to the rest of the frame, nothing crazy. I was just suprised today to be told that it simply would not work.

I just tried out the Affinity lo pro. This is the kind of thing I'm after- it has a decent amount of head tube.
I was also suprised by the amount of toe clearance with my size 13s -but I dont know what length cranks it was set up with.
Bits I didnt like were braze ons, ugly seat tube clamp, straight bridge (i like'm curvy) and un bar-spinnable.
Is bar spinning a 700 on a large lo pro a big ask? -
• #15
@ Big foot. If I were you I'd go to a frame builders and speak to them about making a bar-spinnable (not quite a) lo-pro. Fuck what anyone else says, it's only a bike. There are some total bike nazi's out there, fuck em. If it works it works:)

• #16
oh yea. My old Bareknuckle had a slightly pointy downy top tube............which was nice.

depends on who you ask. I'm not there yet myself.

I'm also keen to have a curvy seat tube. But told this is not really an option because tubes cannot simply be bent by the bike builder, they must be ordered ready bent at serious cost. This is a bit disappointing. Anyone got a seat curvy seat tube going spare??
I'm thinking something like a classic lo pro or geekhouse seat tube

FFS....do some people have their sarcasm filters turned right down or something lately?
You've just shown examples of the very thing you're asking if it's possible to achieve!
Frame shapes don't have to have a direct effect on frame angles and TT length etc...and it's those that determine the ride quality...not how much the top tube slopes forwards or backwards.
You can take the rear of the top tube right up to the saddle and it won't affect the head or seat angle. There's almost nothing that hasn't been tried in the bike world, so when you ask if something as minor as a slightly sloping top tube is possible and someone with 20,000+ posts says no.....you may want to question how serious they're being. :)
It's like Tynans hilarious 'buy extra spoke holes' posts all over again! :)

does anyone else think the curvy seat tube on the geekhouse looks all bulgy and wrong?

I am so framing that quote and putting it on my wall....seriously awesome!

wait a sec......you can buy extra spoke holes.....fuck I wish someone had told me that before I went out and got 48H wheels, cunt.

I didn't want to spell it out. I wanted to see how far along the bike nazi path we all went. Thanks for helping the sarcasm-less souls out. :)

Now here's a difficult one.
I'm looking for a bike with a toptube that slopes down from the headset, towards the seat-tube. Does such a bike exist?
Actually, it should look just like my Giant Bowery. Would I have to go to a specialist builder to get one made?
Any help would be appreciated.
Is it possible to have a frame that has the geometry of a track bike but has a slightly forward sloping top tube. Nothing as extreme as the lo pros ive seen but something in between?
I kind of had this in mind for a custom build but it seems the geometry might not add up.
something like this
