Wanted: Single speed flip/flop complete bike

Posted on
  • Looking for my first single speed bike.

Ideally after something that is relatively sorted with at least:

    • 52-55cm frame (i'm 5'9" with short-ish legs!)
    • a front brake, ideally rear too (whilst i learn to ride fixed)
    • a flip flop hub with freewheel on one side
    • Track frame or track style (ideally with clearance for clip on mudguards as will be commuting on it in a suit!)
    • reasonable wheels and tyres (again ideally large flange hubs and deep rims for strength)
    • Bull horn bars (not essential but prefer those or drops with brakes mounted on ends or drops - i'm coming from a road bike)
All for £200 - may be a tall order but would welcome any advice
  • I reckon a unipac would be right up your street.

  • Down tomasito!

Spend a little more and get a fuji track

also search OTP on the forum.
    Good luck

  • I know enough to know they unipacks are shite!

Would like a Fuji but can't afford a new one and in any case would still have to add brakes etc, hence a 2nd hand fixie that has been fettled is preferable.

Can I ask why everyone on here hates the langster - is it just its looks or the fact its by a mainstream manufacturer or are there a number or issues / faults?

  • how can you learn to ride fixed?

  • Get a Bowery maybe, cheaper than the Langster but very good in my experience.

  • Thanks I'll have a look at a bowrey.

When I say learn to ride fixed I mean get used to. Maybe I'll find it easy but as I'm commuting on this bike I don't fancy getting thrown off under a car if I forget to keep pedalling when slowing down when still half asleep in the morning - hence rear brakes to start with!

  • top man for trying it, i have many friends who just ride single speed.
but you get a better connection with the bike and road with and fixed gear.

  • Unipacks FTW!
Just remember to change the chain, the crankset, the bottom bracket, the stem, the handbars and the wheels.

  • i may have something for you if i decide to sell, pm me if interested

  • I too am pretty much interested in the same deal, a £200 budget..a 58cm - 60cm frame would be ideal..preferably a flip flop hub...

looking to purchase something asap as my knackered mountain bike gave in on me yesterday!

  • My bike will be for sale at the end of June if you haven't found anything by then. 50 ST, 54 TT. The 50 ST would be fine if you have short legs. It's a road conversion with most brazeons filed off. The clearances are OK. You'd be able to fit mudguards. Be about £200 with wheels, £80 without.

  • Big generalising here, but people don't tend to like the geometry or the aluminium frame. It's a personal choice but I'm a steel man myself.

Can I ask why everyone on here hates the langster - is it just its looks or the fact its by a mainstream manufacturer or are there a number or issues / faults?
